KOZ--

Where did you order the TRD Filter for an 05 from? How do you like it so far? I want to get an FIPK from K&N but I hear the 2005 intake is all different and there might be complications... anyone have input on this?

I have one on my v8. tone wise = nothing to get all excited about, but I guess it is a little deeper on full acceleration.

saves me from replacing it every service.

TRD air filter

I have the TRD intake filter and it seems pretty good. You should probably know that if it is from TRD then there has been researched put into the design and manufacturing of its products. What I also did was I removed the second air filter located on the inner side of the air intake cover. It is platic rivited in, so just get a screw driver and pry it out, once out, you can never put it back in!. I also took my dremel and cut out the lower air intake tubing of the bottom air box. I feel this lets an even flow of air to come in. Why did I do this, If you look at a used air filter and notice the dirt pattern on it, only half of the filter will be dirty, the dirty part is only after the exit of the bottom air box tubing. So I figured that If i removed this tubing then I should get an even, overall, better airflow to all points of the filter intake.

Ele'ele,

Is this the same way for a 2005? I would also like to do the same thing you did, where did you get your TRD filter?

I thought I heard in the past that the TRD air filter is really a rebadged K&N filter. Any truth to that?

If the filter is made by K&N, it doesn't use the same materials. There is a big difference in quality and construction. I dought K&N made this filter. It looks like BMC made it.

lots of things look alike nowadays. Maybe it is rebadged.. maybe its not... price doesn't differ too much so Id rather get a TRD one. who's BMC?

BMC makes most of the high end filters for F1 and other racing applications, and also high performance motorcycles.

Koz --- can you take out the bottom portion and dremel a hole into the bottom of the intake box like Ele'ele describes in a couple of posts above on an 05? He mentioned he had an 04 so I didnt know if the intake setups are different on 04 and 05. Thanks.

theres a pic of ele'ele's intake job.

I can actually get the TRD filter cheaper from my local dealership than that place sells it,only $10 cheaper but I also wouldn't have to pay shipping.
