So I made this today.... 4 TREDS mounted on the back of the spare tire on savage-offroad rear swingout bumper. I'd like your honest opinion on this. Some might say, get another swingout. But its not cheap.... and its a lot heavier than this set up. Yes, it does stick out a little bit but not that bad. At least in my opinion. Couple reasons why I did not go with vertical position. First, these TREDS are long! And either they will stick up pretty high, or hang almost lower then bumper. Which this might be a issue when off roading. Could possibly hang up on something. Another is drag on highway. I think in vertical it would have more of tendency to give more resistance. Now, I'm not 100% sure i'll run this set up daily. I did this because, in June I'm going to Virginia for few nights. I need all the roof rack space I can get. So the black board that the TREDS are on is made out of HDPE 1/2". All the hardware are stainless steel. I used 1/2" stainless threaded rod that I cut down. It weights not a lot but a decent amount. If this bumper can handle a 35" tire. I don't think this is heavier than that. I drove the truck around for couple hours today. Over the bumps it had some wobble. But nothing dramatic. The usual, such as without the TREDS. Although I think I could tighten up the red handle a little more. Again, I might keep this set up daily or I might just use it for overland trips to free up roof rack space. Currently I don't have a lock integrated. It is held very sturdy by a ratchet strap. I will however upgrade it to a more beefier one. I'm pretty happy how it came out. Please share your thoughts and opinions. Be honest or be brutally honest. Lets share ideas and thoughts. I understand ideally a second swingout set up would look better.
