Im pretty excited to finally be able to start my own thread. wooooo!


so the first thing i have done to my runner is i changed the stock stereo. i didnt make a post for this because it is alllll over this forum. and i didnt have my camera. BUT there was a problem with it, so here it goes.

once the new Kenwood stereo was in and all fancy i realized i didnt have a face place/cover for it and it looked lame. none of the face plates that came with the "install kit" didnt work. so i was stuck like this:

sooo in order to solve that problem, took some measurements,my dad cut some balsa and came up with this

just seeing if it fits. it stays on by pressure.

also made back pieces just for extra pressure fit.

so once it was sanded and trimmed to fit i primed it, sanded it, and primed it again.

using the primer i had lying around

once that was dandy i needed black paint and i realized i only had gloss. and i didnt want gloss. so i went to my local ACE hardware and picked up some krylon fusion. i picked this because i plan on painting my interior pieces black as well. (eventually everything tan will be black)

by the time all this was done it was night. so i retook the before and after pictures. heeere it goes!

Nice job! That is way beyond my level of talent though! I just bought the obscenely overpriced Urban Runner trim ring from Toyota for $90 bucks for my Eclipse nav unit. Looks good though.

Looks pretty good. Another idea if that gets all scratched up is by getting a sheet of plexi-glass and paint it on the inside so that it will never scratch!!!

plexiglass is a genius idea. but since christmas i am living off like $3 so i wanted to go with what i had lying around. and my dad builds planes n stuff, so balsa was easy. maybe ill upgrade to that eventually. idk how long wood will last haha.

and next mod is probably more of a repair. i plan on removing all the scratches on the ride with meguiars scratch x. and painting the scratches. and i ordered leds offline so those are going in once they arrive. (interior)

Meguiars Scratch X

ok so i had some time today so i decided to remove the basic pinstripeing that trees cause n so forth off the runner. it was really hard to get pics with the sun so i did what i could.

what i used :

Scratch X : $8.49 at walmart
and the pads were like $1.50



all you do is apply a small drop onto the pad and rub it in. using alot of elbow grease. then use a towel and wipe the excess off.

now this was an important one to me. these really bothered me. idk how they got there but they were ugly!

while doing this i got ancy and decided to remove my grill and paint it black. it is currently drying and once its on the pics will be up!

looks good dude! I know my silver T4R is a shopping cart magnet!!! Also your balsa wood trim piece looks better than my professionally installed eclipse kit!!

painted the grill black

as i stated in the last thread i got ancy and realized how easy it was to remove my grill, so i decided, since i have the paint. why not paint it!


tools:
10MM socket wrench
and i used the krylon fusion in the first post

the first thing i did was remove the hatch screws (2, black)

then i just let it hang out of the way

then i removed the other bolts (screws stay attached to grill) these bolts are the silver round tipped ones

i was also super glad to realize the chrome totoya logo was held on with clips. i was under the impression i was going to have to tape it off. instead i just took it off. very handy.

after a good cleaning i applied my first coat.

three coats later and emblem replaced BAM!

put back together

i plan on painting black: door handles, hatch handle, and wheels.
and im thinking of some BFG AT tires when i need new ones. maybe a spacer in the front to level it. i dont have much money to spend so im doing what i can slowly. haha

Here are some pics of my Titanium Metallic with black wheels (some pics with leveling spacer, some without)

I've considered doing the rear hatch black, definitely post some pics if you do it.

PS_I used high heat primer and paint for the wheels and there's not a SINGLE scratch after 3 months of driving through lots of gravel and ice-covered roads!

im ready to paint my wheels, i just need to find the most sufficient way to do it. wether it be to borrow some jacks and do all 5 at once, or just 2 tires at a time kinda thing. right now im leaning twards borrowing jacks. and to have time. kinda an all day thing.

installed LED map light and door lights

ok so i didnt make this a write up cause it took me like 30 seconds per light. its super easy. so far im loving it. gotta get me some dome ones tho.

ill make a write up if its highly requested.
sorry some pics are blurry. and they are brighter than my camera makes them seem.

comparison:

this is a really bad pic. its brighter than it shows, and i turned off the domes and only had the maps on cause they are still stock.

woooo! cant wait for this weekend. gonna paint the tail hatch handle black. its gonna take all day.

Painted my hatch handle black.

ok wooo! so this wasnt has hard as i thought. took about 3 hrs total. 40 min for removing the peice and 2 hours of painting (mostly waiting while watching football) then 20 min to put it back together. i was basically playing a guessing game when doing it cause i did not find a thread or instructions on here that were as detailed as i hoped. so heerrre it goes!


first thing was to remove the cover, and the pull strap.
this is done with a flat head screw driver and 10mm bolt.

then you pull down from inside the hole (dont know technical term) very easily to release one of the clips

that will get you started so you can place your tool into the rest of it. i use a tool i found at o riellys for 4.00 on clearance. its a 10 in one removal tool. its awesome. or you can just keep pulling slowly all the way around the edge. up to you. theyre pretty durable in my opinion.

now once you remove all the edges, there is one clip in the middle
(more middle left) , shown here.

now that is completely loose, shimmy it forward and it should slide right out.

hatch part 2



so in order to reach the bolts to remove it, you do have to cut the weather thing a ma bob.

the red outline shows how i cut it.

then i taped the flaps back. then removed these 2 bolts.

then i removed this bolt. along with the key lock hole thing. and pulled that in.

now there is a bolt waaaayyyyyy to the back that i couldnt reach with my fat fingers. it would have been best if i had an extension or a longer tool.

so i remove this piece in order to reach that bolt. the arrows here shows the clipped wires that i let it hang from with out having to undo those, so i could reach it.

and its loose!

You don't have to cut that yellow weather thing. All you have to do is pull it off and stick it back on. I've done that at least 5 times with my truck.
