Trailer plug mounting options for 97 4runnner

OK, I have searched this place till I was blue in the face and can't find anything on this subject.
I just tore off the original trailer hitch and I'm in the process of of mounting a new"Curt" hitch and I can't figure out where to mount my wiring harness for my trailer.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.ray:

I also have a Curt receiver. I installed the harness behind the panel in the driver side cargo area, near the tail light. Then I ran the line with the 4-pin connector under the trim piece that holds the carpet down (where the hatch meets), under the panel in the passenger side cargo area, and into the storage compartment right there, which is also where I keep the hitch, jumper cables, and some other stuff. When I need to connect to a trailer, I just pull the connector out of the compartment, out the back, and close the hatch. The weather stripping gives enough cushion so the wire isn't damaged. It is possible to run the wire through a grommet in the cargo area floor to the underside, but you'd probably have to take the connector off and reattach it from under the truck.

Don't know if it helps, I just mounted mine on the hitch itself, painted over the exposed metal, and shrouded the plug in Vaseline to prevent water damage; before use I wipe it off, spray down with electronics cleaner and have been good to go for 2 years now. I tend to use it frequently, otherwise I'd probably go with ^

Thanks for the tips Nashvegas34 & thor999,.
I already had the plug attached to the old hitch but when I put this new one on, I wanted it to look as clean as possible.
I wish the bumpers had a knockout or something for the plugs, I hate having it mounted under the hitch because it seams like I drag it and bend the bracket every time I get off road.
Maybe I will get daring and hole drill the bumper and try not to peal too much chrome off.

They are cheap and I think I'm going to get one too. The hanging wire bugs me too but I forgot until you REMINDED me.

That is sweet. but I also have the big round one. I found a picture of a FJ with one in the bumper and I really wish to get something like that.

strap it up underneath and when your not using it just wrap it up under there where you cant see it. or a velcro strap so you can undo it for use and easily put it back up when youre done.
