Trialrun builds a Desert Dune Metallic Runner

had some downtime this weekend, got the deck plate mod completed, added some mesh to keep leaves and debris out, cleaned up the MAF sensor while I was in there and pulled the EFI for a 1/2 hour to reset the ECU. Hopefully i'll see some MPG improvement



 
Started seeing the rig have a slight smoke upon a cold start, was a little worried the head gaskets might be going (especially coming from the land rover world where it's a constant issue). Had Over the Edge Automotive check it out, great guys over there by the way. Leak down test held all night, compressions numbers were good and they ran a camera down on top of the pistons and found no moisture. The did find a good amount of carbon build up on the piston heads and added in deep creep to clean them. The final diagnosis is the truck is running rich, but no coolant or HG issues. Might have the injectors flow tested when I install the 7th injector kit and put in a new o2 sensor

Had them steam clean the undercarriage in anticipation of applying a Fluid Film coating to help prevent rust and corrosion since New England winters are terrible and salt gets everywhere



Spent about an hour under the truck getting everything fully coated with Fluid Film, should last all winter
 
Black Friday consisted of an early morning order with Bay Area Metal Fab :biggrin2: Then spent the day exploring Nepaug State Forest, you'll have to excuse the jeep, didn't get many pics of Rumbles







 
Finally quit dicking around and did some work on the runner, swapped out the rear diff fluid.

Good to go
 
Next up on the agenda, 231mm 13WL Tundra brake upgrade. Oh and just an FYI I found the new oem yota parts at westboro for a heck of a deal. Rotors were less than aftermarket Napa ones, so we're the pads

Oh and used some Amazon gifts cards from Xmas to order the G2 Self leveling caliper paint kit and high temp TRD brake logos to clean them up and really give them a clean look

Trialrun - I am really enjoying your mild build...truck rims look awesome & TRD supercharger is just icing on the cake.
Man-O-Man that Limited is beyond mint, right down to the rust free frame rails...could pass for a museum piece.
- couldn't help but admire your cargo buddies (stunning pair)...whats their names & age?
- I've got a Doberman, we drove 25 hours to IL, for the puppy & back to Canada / she owns my wheels
BTW - could you please post an interior photo of the E-locker control / I don't know where to look (console/dash), on mine (?)...just being hopeful.

Been having my cars & 4x4's oil undercoated since the mid 1970's.
- Fluid Film, is the best product I've found / nothing beats wax-oil IMO & just picked up a gallon, of the stuff...more yield (<$), over spray cans
- I found a 50 year old spray gun with a slotted tip, could probably spray bed liner / $20 garage sale find
I'm getting my 2000 SR5 in a week, just waiting on safety check repairs and garage owner friend is letting me use his hoist, to undercoat it.

PS - I'm new to this form & love it / but I do need to talk to a moderator & don't know anyone...so if someone can help, send me a PM...Thks Larry.

Thanks for the kind words, I definitely don't treat it like a museum piece but wheel her like she was meant to be used.

I'd love a pincher, but boxers are a great breed and well behaved. Those two are jojo and demps (brother and sister) you can tell who was the runt of the litter and which one was the biggest.

Fluid film is great, I thought about going the spray gun route but those little spray cans do the trick and give enough pressure to get in all the nooks and crannys.

As for the mods, there is a list on the main page for each section, below is photo of the rear locker switch as requested

Maybe I missed it in the thread....but what made you sell the Disco? Looked like it was set up pretty well.......
 
sorry I've been M.I.A. over the last year. Between wedding planning, my track Miata getting totaled by a drunk driver and my excessive work schedule the 4runner has taken a back seat to life.

Getting back at it, tundra brake swap, LBJ's and inner / outer tie rods done. Hoping to capitalize on Black Friday for a suspension upgrade and then alignment for the winter

Ask and you shall receive. On a side one of the the calipers leaked so I had to replace it, so just don't look at the drivers side, it's not painted yet
