Having noticed excessive movement in the trunk's side panels I investigated further and found a couple of the trim bolts could not be tightened (such as one in the little cubby on top of the wheel arch). When I removed them I found they had essentially stripped the threads of the metal holes, which isn't too surprising considering they look like self-tapping screws.
So now I'm on the hunt for replacements, which should also probably be self-tapping but slightly larger, since the existing holes are essentially useless. Anyone know where to find such screws? My search at a local hardware store and auto parts store turned up nothing useful -- everything was either too small or the threads were too fine.
Alternatively, does anyone has any other suggestions how to get the existing screws to once again screw tight? It's not a huge deal but hopefully any fix will stop all the creaks and squeaks coming from the trunk area.
