TRIMMING and getting ready for the 285/70/17's

Hey All,

I took info from Promed, Trik444 and J.A. I appreciate all the pics you guys have posted and all of the technical info.

I lack mechanical skills a bit but I do have access to the right people and most importantly the right tools and have the willingness to learn..

Here are my pictures of how I moved my front fender wells in and trimmed the front bumper on both sides. I was super nervous cutting the bumper but I worked out.

I used an air saw then 100 grit then 180 and brush touched the line where I cut.

I hope these pictures become useful to anyother folks who plan on doing this.

***I took my rear mudflaps off but I am concerned about the opening thats there. Has anyone devised a housing that can cover that?????****

I belive others have left the flaps on, trimming along the contour where the flap meets the bumper.
 
i know i went picture crazy...but hopefully this will help others determine trimming amounts.

What do you guys think...I am sitting and waiting on UPS today...my tires are coming any time today! YIPPIE...i will post pics with new tires ASAP
 
Looks good! Very clean and should provide plenty of clearance for you. I did the same mod per J.A.'s writeup on his website and it turned out very good. I haven't had any rubbing issues and I'm running Spidertrax wheel spacers, 265/70/R17 tires, and only a 1" lift up front.
 
So just curious, why did you trim if you have 265/70/17's AND a lift? I have that size without a lift and have never had a problem rubbing.

So my Homo A $ $ is up at 7:00 am getting ready to take the truck to our goodyear tire expert ....Ray!

T-Minus 30 mins until STT time!!!

Pictures coming this afternoon!!

I cant believe I am this excited over tires.

For those who have not seen the Cooper Discoverer Stt 285/70/17 as a "naked" tire....holy crap they are pretty fricking big!

I am glad I was a nerd a prepared the trimming and everything prior! Thanks to all you friendly folks on the forum!

See ya all later this afternoon. Kinda sucks I have no one to go 4wheeling with around our boring Ohio town!

It's not that you don't have anyone to go wheeling with in OH, it's that we have no trails.
Let me know when/where you wanna go. I'll be taking my FJ40 though.
 
Um...yep I love them..they are fricking sexy tires baby!!!!

Now its gonna be new exhaust and a small sub woofer and amp. I may have to wait a week until the "old lady" forgets about the grand I just dropped on tires and mounting!

the last few pictures was my little brother pointing out the big dog turd we rolled the tire through by accident.

The rest I was just trying to show I have NO rubbing at all. It was a good thing I moved fender walls up and trimmed. The tires come real close but there is NO NO rubbing which is sweet!

Oh yea that's me in the very first pic I had my lady take it showing my gay excitement before the install! lol

I meant G.I.G. He only runs 265/70/17's but he trimmed. I was asking why he did that.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Your truck looks awesome...I'm going to be doing the same thing next week and can't wait.
