TRIMMING and getting ready for the 285/70/17's

next time i decide to take pictures and spend time updating and trying to help others out .....on this forum.i may think twice before i do it again on here

I agree...don't take it personally. I love the pics and updates; I just don't really post that much, but they are appreciated. I'm about to do the same thing you did in about a week or so. I was going to do it this week, but stuff happens, so hopefully i'll be take some pics of mine soon...and you can not comment on those. J/K

you can trim the mudflap off right where it goes to a single layer of plastic, start from the inside and follow the line on the flap, you can do this with a pocket knife or razor blade, heres a pic i can send more if you need. it keeps the hole filled and removes the lower part of the flap.

Looks great! I loved my 285 STT's when I had them. I have almost worn through my current STT's (275/60/18's) and was going to switch to an All-Terrain but it looks like I will be ordering myself another set!!! Now if I can find a way to stuff a 305/60/18 or a 325/60/18 in the wheel well........

The first thing I did notice was the MPH gauge difference which your spedo says you are going 5-6 miles per hour faster than you actually are going...PROMED has a good link to this thing that tells you exactly what your MPH will show depending on your tire size. Hey this will keep me from speeding now...

Actually you are going faster than your gauge reads. Because you have a larger diameter tire the center is turning slower. If anything you will be more likely to get a speeding ticket. Especially now you're turning all those heads... :wink2: cops notice these things too.

I've noticed more looks since I've installed my mods, including ones from cops.

So just curious, why did you trim if you have 265/70/17's AND a lift? I have that size without a lift and have never had a problem rubbing.

I have 3" lift and that size tire and I'm rubbing badly!

Seems the "variation bug" has bitten us again. The BFG AT's have a strong square shoulder though, so not all sizes are even the same amongst themselves in terms of fitment..

I’m kind of glad because this thread has great pics, and I never saw it before. Since I’m getting new wheels and tires very soon, this info is very relevant for me, even though I’m not planning to go quite as large (275/70/17), I would imagine I’ll have to do nearly the same level of trimming.

For me this is pretty much a waste of time with results that would only benefit a hand full of vehicle owners, if that many. You asked what other thought, you got me opinion.
