Trip Computer Algorythm?

I haven't had my 03 4R long enough to figure this out, but I'm sure someone has. What is the sampling period the trip computer is working off of? Is it a sliding period of time or miles?

For instance, if I don't reset it for a week, is it averaging out the whole week? In this case it would be slow to respond to immediate fluctuations. Or is there a period that it samples?

I believe the MPG computation is strictly the cumulative average from the last time you reset it.

MPG = a * fuel pulse counts / distance counts, where 'a' is a scaling factor to produce the correct result.

The fuel pulse counts are derived from the #1 injector turn-on signal. The distance counts are derived from transitions on the vehicle speed sensor signal.
