Trip Computer disconnect...

I am having a hard time figuring this one out, maybe someone can shed some light on it for me. Ever since I've had my '05 V6 (24K) my trip computer has read somewhere around 21 mpg average fuel economy, and when filled up completely, the tank read somewhere around 410 miles to empty.

In early December, I bought a new TRD intake kit, and I have put somewhere around 1K on it since that point. Consistantly since installation, my average mpg reads somewhere around 20 mpg, and when the tank is filled completely, it now reads about 360 mpg. How can this be?

I know the actual fuel consumption, done by hand, to be around 2 mpg less than the computer, and the weather has gotten quite a bit cooler which could account for the decrease of 1 mpg on the computer (all of which doesn't bother me...) but that small of a difference should not knock 50 miles off my range. I don't get it. Isn't the range based on avg mpg? If anyone gets this please let me know. And before someone asks, I disconnected the battery when I installed the CAI, so I would assume that the computer has reset itself.

When filling up the tank, reset the MPG reading. Then drive that tank gas down to 1/4 or less before refueling. Do that a few times and the range will increase. If you consistently fill up at 1/2, the range will go down.

I get 433 on the range FWIW.
