Trip computer questions

I like the idea that the trip computer shows you your average MPG. It's a great motivator to drive at normal speeds like a normal person and put the cruise control on.

But what was Toyota thinking by only allowing updates every 30 seconds? Even Buick can show you instant fuel economy. I think Toyota dropped the ball on that. Does anyone know a way to tweak this to decrease the time between updates?

It's also nice to know your average speed, but if you're using cruise control on a long trip, this feature seems rather redundant. I'd have like to have seen a highest speed reading that can be reset between trips, kind of like a telltale button.

Does anyone have a better use for the average speed function?

Thanks,

Mav

I agree, it would be nice to have an instant and an average MPG reading. Also, the MPG computer is about 10% optimistic. The average speed feature is useless to me.

The only tweak I've made was to the signal that tells the MPG computer how much fuel the engine is using. For details see:

Iowa, that's light years beyond my capability, but it seems like a cool trick. You must either be an electrical engineer or a Toyota tech :) Thanks anyway though.
