Trip to Arkansas..Hot Springs..Scenic 7 (HWY)

So, yeah this is a little off topic..

I was going kayaking at Lake Ouachita next weekend but they canceled on us. We're staying at Hot Springs AR and are still bringing our kayaks but instead of camping overnight at the lake we thought that we'd take the scenic Hwy 7 route to perhaps Fort Smith AR.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this trip? Even better, any SUGGESTIONS for a destination in the area. We have reservations for Friday night and Sunday night in Hot Springs AR. I just threw out Fort Smith because it seems doable as a one night outing.

I think I should clarify a bit though. We're taking my GF's Rav4 and we are really just looking for a scenic driving destination out of Hot Springs for an overnight stay.

Off roadng is not part of the plan. Scenic Hwy 7 is definitely the plan, but where to? Clarksville, Morriton, Russelville...? We like exploring out of the way places.
