Trip to Ouray this weekend.

I'll be taking the new 4Runner on its first adventure this weekend. Planning to leave out Sunday and drive up to Ouray (from southern Oklahoma). I've been checking the trail reports. Some of them are open and some of the higher ones are still closed from all the snow. It's just me and my dog Otis going on this trip so I won't be doing any serious wheeling since I'll be alone. Plus I don't have sliders or full skids yet (they are on the list). If anybody has any tips, advice, or suggestions on certain places to check out, please let me know.

it depends on what opens up. The Alpine loop is a great choice and there are multiple websites with maps and information on it, like TrailDamage.com.

Check out the Bushducks.com web site. TrailDamage.com is now a paid site and doesn't have current trail conditions, but does have good trail run descriptions with photos.

Not too much is open yet, but Yankee Boy is open, Last Dollar Rd is open and is a good one for a stock truck and the road from Silverton to Animas Forks is open. Ophir is open on the east side to the top, but San Miguel county hasn't plowed the west side as of a few days ago.

Trails

Go up there at least once a year. Had a FJ Cruiser up until 2 months ago. Been going since 2009. Been on Last Dollar, Engineer, Alpine Loop, Cinnamon, California, Corkscrew, Imogene, Mineral, Ophir, Yankee boy, Governer. I usually do easy to moderate being as that I don't want to chance wrecking my only vehicle. lol. Check with the Information center in town they should be able to tell you. Check this link out, pretty helpful for picking trails based on how easy or difficult they are. I'm going up 2nd week of Aug. Hope it helps

Yeah, I check that site fairly often and was surprised to find this yesterday. I paid my buck for the year. They've also made some other changes - they no longer have the .KML links to download google earth tracks. Fortunately I already pulled the ones I wanted over the past couple of years.

Contact the forest service. They will have the up to date openings. Not many high passes are open yet.
