Update from dealer: they cannot reproduce the lumbar issue so that TSB will not be addressed. The good news is I'm getting my truck back today, but the bad part is I need to continue to try and find a way to reproduce the popping/creaking on demand so "it can be validated by the dealer". their argument is that they have to ship the part back to Toyota and will get billed back if Toyota can't confirm the issue. it's a pain in the ass, but I still have plenty of warranty left, so we'll see where things end.

beats me... I was sitting in traffic.. Not sure what the fault codes read. Did anyone look them up yet? Might be as simple as sensor giving out. that would trip the emissions failure and voila.. limping to the side of the road.
olice:Lumbar: 2 techs drove my truck; they didn't hear/feel anything ergo there is no issue.
Throttle body: will try to find out more when I pick it up.

I wish they would have changed the part number so we/they could tell if it's a pre or post TSB throttle body. Pretty sure they won't do the TSB(replace the throttle body) unless you throw the 2111 or 2112 codes. To people who think this has happened to them in the past ,the ECU does store the codes until they are cleared.

Thanks Harper! That makes total sense. It s not the throttle body per se, it is the throttle body butterfly flap actuator. Apparently it is not serviced seperately so a new unit is required.

can you confirm for me that it's 4x4 4 runners with vins before 5056465 ? If so, i am affected too. Ironically, i think i remember my 4runner acting a little funny a few months ago. But, its' fine now. I guess i will mention it when i go in for my 10K service check/oil change soon...

I am no expert here....but from reading the TSB Okki originally posted.
From what I could tell, trucks built before 5056465 were the ones with the possible issues (apparently a bad throttle body valve).

No... I tried that several times. the "simple" fix MIGHT be to disconnect the battery, let it sit for a little, reconnect and then keep your fingers crossed.
or call a tow truck and get it to a dealer where it needs to go anyway to have the part replaced

I was not able to find what P2111 means and I found two possible options for P1605.

Hey there okki hope everything is well. Well here is another issue like yours which happened to pinoy227 back in may of 2011. This was in the thread of transmission issues. So you aren't the only one.
I just got back my TE from the dealership..here's the back story as to why it was there..
A couple of months ago I was driving to NYC. Stuck in traffic, I sort of "stalled" What happened was I couldn't accelerate. It was as if I was in neutral and someone pushing me. It didn't matter how hard I press on the gas. I could only go 5 mph. The "check engine" light, Slip indicator and the multi-terain select indicator light came on. . I had to pull over, turn off the ignition and start it up again. The lights stayed on but at least I could drive. It would stall again if I would slow down like at a traffic light but it would be fine if I were to keep driving. Anyways, it miraculously "repaired" itself the next day. I brought it in to the dealership and they said it was probably a malfunctioning sensor. So they reset it and told me to come back if it turned on again. Well it did..and both times when I was in downtown Manhattan in stop and go traffic. Long story short, my second visit resulted in the throttle body assembly being replaced.

Are these throttle bodies drive by wire or are they cable operated? Only ask is because I have a buddy with a 99 vet, he had to have his tb replaced out in effingham, il at a corvette fest back in 2001, he couldn't even get his car to start, we could hold open the butterfly and it would start but ended up having to have the tb replaced, it somehow went bad....it happens....

You guys are starting to scare me. I have been kicking around getting a 5th gen to replace my 03 4runner but this is starting to sound like the problems with Jeeps on the Jeep forums.
