truck problem

hey guys

im having a bit of a problem with my 95 4runner today and was woundering if anyone might know what the problem is?

ok, so i went to the car wash today and throughly washed everything and payed close attention to the underneath. once i was done i left but i didnt leave very fast. my truck would accelerate but once the rpm got up around 2000 it would jump back down to 1500 then back up to around 2000. i cant get it to go any faster. could this be a blocked cat. converter? or maybe a fuel pump?

anybody have any ideas?

Well, if it didn't do it before and only after the car wash my guess would be to let it dry out. Check if anything under the hood might have gotten wet (dist. cap, etc) also check for electrical connections where you could have gotten it wet. Dry them out and seal them up then.

My bet would be on an electrical problem, see what it does tomorrow or when it is dry.

Maybe you could have sprayed water on your fuel filter or lines and the cold temps froze your lines some and caused some slower fuel delivery.

i am terribly sorry to hear that. i used to have a '93 runner with the v6. when i would get close to water (deep puddles etc.) the same thing would happen. i must have spent $1500.00 trying to fix the problem, replacing everything from the MAF to the oxygen sensors. i read countless articles on similar problems, but i was never able to resolve the issue. i finally resigned myself to thinking that water was somehow entering the computer, but i never was sure. i truly hope that you have a different problem.

btw, you might want to post the question on the toyota forum @ 4x4wire.com - some of those guys are pretty good.

this may sound weird, but this has happened to me...cracked distributor cap. the crack was very hard to see.

hey guys,

i let my truck sit in the heated garage all night and this morning everything was good. i talked to my mechanic and told him what it was doing, he seems to think that water got up into the intake and froze since the intake is on the lower left front side. and i did throughly wash the underneath. so i hope its just that. kinda sucks, i'l have to be more careful washing the underneath next time if thats the problem.

Just as an FYI for 2.7L.... when I go through the Car Wash with the high pressure water jets i had the same problem. I would get water in the the #4 spark plug well. I would get the same thing you descirbed R1 Vern the rpm jumping. I would have to take the plug out and blow out the spark plug well and dry off the pulg and the plug wire.
