Truck wanders on highway after lift

Hey Guys,

So I did the FJ lift with a 1/2'' toytec spacer about 4 months ago and I love the lift and ride- exactly what I was looking for. However, it is now noticeably more wobbly on the highway at speeds >60; it just seems to like to wander. I had it aligned right after the lift and they said they had trouble getting it within spec, but they were just able to. After some reading though, it seems that with the increased camber from the lift likely came this swaying on the highway. Has anyone else experienced this and have you found any solution? I am a bit surprised to see this after such a small lift (2''F / .75''R) and I really don't want to shell out $600 for aftermarket control arms.

Coincidentally, I am getting some stock FJTT UCA's for free. These wouldn't help anything would they? They're the same as 4R parts, right?

any help is appreciated,

thanks

I think they as a fairly common issue after being lifted. I notice that I have some wander (and I have not gotten into get it aligned since installing the kit in Jan) too. It seems to be more prevalent ~ 50 but not too noticeable below and above this speed. I don't think there is a solution. I've heard UCA can help, but not erase it. I think your will need to live with it.

This does bring up and interesting point, I wonder if the FJC owners experience this too? I breifly scanned the FJC site and found that owners complain about "wander" anywhere from stock FJC to Lifted. The comments talked about "bias ply tires", "MT's (squared tires till the edges wore off to make them more rounded", and "UCA solved the issue".

When you lifted your 4Runner, you reduced your range of available caster. Our Gen4's are known for their wandering and sensitivity to cross-winds in the stock configuration. Reducing your caster is only going to make it worse.

I'm sure that your shop got it within spec, but I'll guarantee that it's less than it was before the lift. You should have gotten a print-out that shows your alignment settings.

Aftermarket UCA's will add back that lost range, but I'm not sure about the FJ UCA's... if they're a direct swap, it may also provide additional range. I think that it will depend on geometry differences between the 4Runner and FJ.

Any time you modify a vehicle's suspension, you are going to change the geometry, and that will affect steering and handling. Even just adding taller tires will have some affect.
