Trying to fit 5 spoke wheels in spare tire location

Did a bit of searching on this, and didn't come up with anything. I apologize in advance if I missed it.....

I recently did the tundra brake mod, and read somewhere that you couldn't fit the factory spare rim over the bigger calipers. As a result I contacted my local junk yard, and purchased a 5 spoke wheel for cheap..... This is where my short bus days caught up with me. I had a local shop take the tire off the steel spare and mount it on the 5 spoke, before I checked to see if it would mount using the factory spare bracket wire thing.... of course it does not! My question is, has anyone mounted the 5 spoke rims under the car, and if so, how? thanks in advance...

Never tried it but what's the issue? Does the metal anchor not fit through the center of the 5 spoke wheel?

yeah. I don't see why it wouldn't work. The center hole in the rim should be the same size. I have an FJ Cruiser rim under mine using the factory linkage. Maybe snap a pic for us of the problem your having?

You need to have the wheel oriented so that the "face" or front side of the rim presses against the floor of the truck. Pop the center cap off, feed the winching mechanism through the center hole and get it to grab the lug holes, then it should work.

It will work if the 5-star is stock, as I have one under my truck at the moment.

WOW... Yup definitely a short bus moment. Thanks to everyone for their quick replies. I just went out their turned the wheel over, and of course it fit perfectly. Feel pretty stupid for not thinking of that...... And I fly planes for a living! Just remember that the next time you travel...

I had a moment of dread when I tried to put my new rim with the new fifth tire on it under there for the first time and it appeared to not fit. :bat::cowboy:

I was relieved when plan B was a success.
