The top is just a utility grade abs. Bottom is a raw "paintable abs". Basically they use the scraps of old sheets and that's what they had.

Will either of the two types be used in the final production? The top loos a little rough like bed liner. Bed liner looks cool new, but it s a ***** to clean.

No. The smooth "paintable" one is pretty close but the final versions will have a matte/satin black paint film on them. If we went with just the paintable finish they would gray out and get weathered fast and be a lot more susceptible to scratching. That's not to say the paint film will be scratch resistant just a more durable then the raw plastic.

Since I’m “patiently” waiting for the garnish to start shipping. I finished the grill part of the wiring. Added a quick disconnect to make things easier hahah.

Man this is really unfortunate for us. Doesn't look like it will change until toyota fixes. Painting mine was a breeze and I can't even tell I painted it.

1st upper was 80% blemished and very noticeable and not acceptable for the cost - hopefully Toyota fixed this and the newer grills are coming out in better condition.

I just picked up my 2nd upper grill and this one came in blemished only on the back side and corners about 5-10%. No painting required it will look perfect installed.

How did yours look?

I got mine from BAMWHOLESALEPARTS. They were priced at 178.18 but had free shipping and a coupon code of TOYOTA which took 5% off. grand total 169.27. took a couple days to ship, but its on its way now VIA FEDEX

Went last night to check fitment and give the okay to proceed with ordering material and do the production run. Will take about 2 weeks to get material in. Then about a week to run and process everything.

Here is some pics of the final fitements. I'm liking it a lot.

I know. We originally planned to use sheets of plastic they already stock. But because of the adjustments necessary to get proper forming, we are required to order a bigger sheets of plastic. Otherwise we would be doing the forming run now.
