Tundra 231mm vs 199mm

Anyone know if the only difference between the larger 231mm Tundra brakes and 199mm is the larger casting and pads? Are the pistons the same size and everything? I know people say once they upgrade to the Tundras the pedal goes down farther and that is because it has larger pistons so it needs more fluid. I was thinking of just going with the 199mm setup to lessen the pedal difference but my thinking may be flawed if it's the same pistons.

when I get to doing mine, I have LC rims and am just planning the 199's so I dont have to grind any rims to make them fit.

I'm thinking I read LC wheels will work with the 231's so I did a search for my question and came up on this thread.

Anybody running LC wheels with the larger Tundra calipers and no spacers???

80 Series LC wheels will NOT fit over 231mm calipers, unless you run at least a 1/4" wheel spacer. That info is in the write up too in the "wheels that fit" section.

Agreed.. I had LC80 wheels and they did not fit the 230mm. Grinding down the wheel or caliper was not an option for me either so I just went with 1.25" spacers. Which works fine for me since I'm running 35s now. Just for reference, they will not fit over the LX450 wheels either. I tried for S&Gs. Had the same problem as the LC80s.

did some searching. So my question is I have the lx450 rims, will the larger caliper not fit but the smaller one will? I'd rather not have a huge backspacing, but it's an option if I need to. But I'd like to keep the stance similar front and rear to the best i can. I'll be probably going with 285/75 duratracs, so I want some better braking, plus one of my rotors is warped anyways.

199's will fit, 231's won't. But if you're going to run 285's, get spacers and get the bigger brakes. As far as the track front to rear, run spacers at all 4 corners. Problem solved.

I have the 199mm and I think they are great! I think the whole 231mm are better then the 199mm is over blown. Yes, a bigger brake is better but the difference is small so don't loose sleep over it. 199mm is better then grinding rims IMO.
