Tundra 5100 vs 5100s

So I just called thmotorsports because last time they told me that they will get bilstein shocks in mid June. Now they telling mid August. I'm ready fo shoot my self haha. Placed an order since April. Anyone got any other websites that sell shocks maybe in stock ? I paid $339 with shipping for tundra 5100 and rear long travel. If anyone knows a site that might have them in stock for around same price. Please !!! HATE BILSTEIN

I placed an order for my Tundra 5100's through Bilstein Canada two months ago and they came in about a week ago. When I ordered, I was told that they are on backorder all over North America. From the sounds of things, I guess I should be glad I got mine when I did. They are going on today.

Is there any particular reason people pair Tundra+long travel Tacoma 5100s together when not running LC coils, aside from direct bolt on? I've noticed this with quite a few, even SS does this with their 7.2 kit (pairing them with OME 890s) and I'm curious as to why. Is the valving similar? Because that's what really raises my eyebrow - why someone would mix up the stiffness in the front and rear, with stock weight :noidea:

Pretty sure most folks run Tundra front and rear.
Tundra fronts have the stiffer valving to controll tundra coils and handle extra weight.
Tundra rears have softer valving for leaf spring rear, that seem to work well with 4runners without too much weight.

Folks that haul weight seem to tend toward LC Tokico’s or similar because they are valved stiffer for a heavier coil sprung Landcruiser.

I’m running tundra 5100’s with 891’s in the rear and have a bumper, swingout and a bunch of gear in the back. I get a ton of bounce, need to get the LC Tokico’s, these 5100’s can’t handle it

Because the 4Runner specific 5100's are a recent addition to their lineup. The were released in 2017, I believe... So, any thread before that won't even mention them.

Also, the Trundra fronts are slightly longer (more droop) and the Tacoma rears are also longer (I think requiring bump stop spacers) for more droop.

That said, I have the 4Runner 5100's all around on my 4Runner...

Gotcha. It's good thing I'm not running weight and won't be for any considerable time, and I'm certainly not trying to go higher than 3in or have an absurd amount of rake/stiffness. Currently I only have a 60lb tube bumper to put on.

Yeah I knew they were relatively new. I was just curious why such an odd combo. I debated the 4runner specific set for a little while but saw quite a few people complain they were much too soft. What are your thoughts?

I dunno. The 4Runner 5100's aren't too soft in my opinion. Heck, they are designed for the stiffer OME 2906 springs. The only 'too soft' comments I have seen are from the rears when the Tacoma shocks are used instead (shocks for leaf springs are valved softer due to leaf spring rub doing some damping for you).

how much lift can i expect from Tundra 5100s and TRD coils at the 2nd perch? Would You even get more lift at the 3rd perch, or are you just preloading the coil at that point?

According to Sonoran Steel, the 1st setting will give 2.5" & the 2nd 3" with a stock front end. The 3rd & 4th setting will be dependent on additional weight (armor, etc). He doesn't recommend the 5th.
