tundra 5100s w/ eibach? PICS!

zach you do know that you'll need to add a full load to the cargo area for about 2 weeks to settle the rear right?

yeah judging by the picture he's completely unloaded. the top plate spacer shouldn't have too much of an effect. I know when sonoran steel sells the kit they give you 7.5 wraps not the 8. I could be wrong but hit up steve schaefer from sonoran steel on yotatech. There's a lot more people on there that run that kit on there. I know with that setup, rake is inevitable unless you've got tons of weight in the back

Aren't the 5100s adjustable? How high do you have them set? I have also seen people put a 3/8 top plate space on top of the TRDs, but there are those that say spacers wear out your coils...

Yea, they are adjustable. I have them on the 2nd notch. There is a total of 5. Yea, I am just worried that when I put the shocks up another notch, it will compress the coil too much and get a harsh ride. It rides excellent right now. Theres just so much rake, cosmetically, it doesnt look great to me.

That top plate spacer looks to be the cheap/easy answer to your problem Zachpins. What preload setting are you currently using on your front struts?

I am considering a top plate spacer. Im on the 2nd notch. I think I may put it up to the third notch. Just dont want to suffer ride quality. Thats why im considering the toytec eibach coils, so more height, but still a good ride.

OP: I don't understand. The Tundra 5100's are specifically made to be able to be adjusted. They have more setting than the Tacoma ones, so you have a lot of adjustability even not having a full coilover. Why don'y you just move them up a couple notches and call it a day? You could move it up 1 or 2 notches and use a small top plate spacer too. You're either going to be compressing a lift spring (aka Eibach coils or OME 881, etc) or compressing your stock TRD Tundra coils.

Yea, I think I will probably end up bumping it up to the 3rd notch out of 5. Im just worried abobut the ride quality. Maybe if its too harsh, I will end up getting the toytec/eibach coils up front for more lift to level it out, and still a decent ride.

I think what Zachpins34 is saying in a way is why are we using the Tundra coils that provides 2 inches of lift when we can use the Eibach springs that provide 3 inches of lift with the adjustable 5100's?

I know you can adjust the 5100's but every time you go up another notch you lose ride quality. It makes me wonder the same. Why should I keep bumping up notches (I am currently on the second one) or add a top plate spacer when I can just switch to a 3 inch coil?

Excuse me if I spoke incorrectly for you Zachpins34 but I guess I am still a bit confused as well. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

YES! thats what im saying. Or trying to say lol. The trd coils are awesome, I just have so much rake and I dont wanna suffer ride quality by bumping up more notches, when I can get the eibach 3" coil and just be on the 5100s lowest setting and have a decent ride. I guess I will try bumping up the 5100s to the middle notch and see how it rides. If too harsh, I will probably end up getting the eibachs then. That is if they fit over the tundra 5100s.

I agree with IanB - the TRD progressive springs ride unbelievable good for DD purposes and flex great. Really IMO, the perfect coil for our trucks.

OP - adjust your 5100's up a notch and then decide if you want to do a top spacer.

As I understand, The top spacers provide cheap lift and won't compress the coils therefore not affecting ride quality, but is there an issue with full droop and CV breakage if you go this method? You will be furthering the droop of the suspension by the height of the spacer will you not?

Yea I think I will bump it up a notch. I wouldnt want to use a top plate spacer though because I am worried about CV angles and having em break or leak grease. Hope fully the middle setting on the tundra 5100s will bring it up closer to level. I want about 0.5"-1" of rake.

Zach let me know if you decide to switch and sell the tundra setup. I would be very interested in buying

I will be keeping the tundra 5100s for sure. I am going to try to keep the springs too but if I later end up not using them and going w/ toytecs, I will have em for sale along with the HD shocks I got them with. Still not sure yet though.

Zach does have the adjustables. Zach, I would bump it up one notch and see how you like the ride. If it isn't what you want then go with the Eibach's or the top plate spacers. What about getting 7 wraps instead of 8 wraps?

Thanks, I think that's a good plan. I will put it up to the middle setting and see how it rides and decide from there. The front is already a little softer than the rear right now, so maybe the 3rd notch being a little tighter will help balance it out a bit too. If it is too harsh of a ride though, I will probably get the eibach toytec 3" coils. That is if they fit the tundra 5100s.

I love the 8 wraps and the height in the rear, so I definitely wanna keep the 8 wraps and not get 7 wraps. I wanna just try to bring the front up to be a little closer to level with still 0.5"-1" rake..

zach you do know that you'll need to add a full load to the cargo area for about 2 weeks to settle the rear right?

Really? Even after its been on for a few months and daily driving? I only have shoes, tow strap and gym clothes back there. I kinda dont want it to settle lol. I like the height in the rear.

I am considering a top plate spacer. Im on the 2nd notch. I think I may put it up to the third notch. Just dont want to suffer ride quality. Thats why im considering the toytec eibach coils, so more height, but still a good ride.

Trying the struts in the 3rd position is free (outside of a possible alignment), so I'd definitely try that 1st. I would also be very interested to find out more about the Eibach spring though, is it linear or progressive, and what is the spring rate. With that info you may be able to tell on paper that your ride quality would be worse with that option than the TRD's in the 3rd or even 4th position.

I have the Tacoma 5100 with the eibach coils. And 8 wraps in the rear. The ride is great and it's sits very level. I may have a 1" rake but that's very hard to see.

Ok, the TRD Tundra coils I have are a #595 spring. The toytec/eibach 3" lift coils are #620 springs. So theoretically the toytec/eibach coils should be stiffer, but since my TRD Tundra coils are compressed, they are probably about equal spring rate or stiffer. Especially if I bump the 5100s up to the 3rd notch.
I emailed toytec and they said they dont know if you can use Tundra bilstein 5100s, rather than the 4runner 5100s, with their 4runner toytec eibach 3" lift coils.

Hmmmmmmm.....opinions?

Are the Eibach's linear or progressive rate?

I'm pretty sure a progressive rate spring is rated for it's stiffest winds, so if the pre-load eats up the progressive sections of the spring (the 1st to compress), it would be closer to it's rated springrate all the time, but would not exceed that rating. So the TRD's on the higher perch settings would be more like a 595# linear spring.

If people complain the TRD's are too rough on the higher perches, then I can guess what the Eibach will ride like (won't change based on the perch). If you have added weight on the front (bumpers, winches, etc), then this would be a non-issue.

Hey IanB, I'm pretty sure the Eibachs are linear. And I think you're right, thanks for the help, and sparring me wasting $175 on new coils. Sounds like I'll be adjusting the tundra 5100s up a notch or two.
