Tundra brake anti-rattle clips

Did the tundra brake upgrade this weekend.So did I put these clips in right? They don't seem secure in any method I've tried. I need to rebleed and flush the rest of the system before I can make a good evaluation, however right now I have a spongy brake pedal that is a bit worse than the factory brakes. Just ran out of time to flush and bleed everything again.

WTF is right! Were you trying to weave something out of those things that would get you by?

Read the 231 TBU thread (link in my sig). There are close up pics and step by step instructions on how to put the pads into the calipers.

They're wrong. See the pictures. You won't lose your pads, but they're probably rattling over every bump. If they're still on.

I highly recommend getting OEM clips. The ones that came with my Napa calipers broke and the Autozone replacements were too loose. I would hear my pads rattle on big bumps.

OEM fixed it right away.

Haha, I figured they weren't right. I didn't weave them together though, just put them on each side and put towards the center. I'll fix em when I'm re-bleeding later. Now that I see a picture, that makes a whole lot more sense.

Other thing I found interesting trying to bleed the rear drums. I couldn't get any fluid out using one guy to pump the pedal, then opening/closing, releasing the pedal, repeat. Only time I was able to get fluid to bleed was with the engine running. Does the ABS system close or something with the engine off? First time I've ever bled drum brakes, but I'm no stranger to bleeding brakes. The front brakes I was able to bleed with the engine off as normal.

By the way, these clips were what came with the re-manufactured calipers I bought. Raybestos brand. I've been listening for the pads rattling cause I figured they weren't in right, so maybe I've been lucky thus far.

Mine started rattling a week or two after I initially installed them. Only that cured it was to get the OEM ones. I compared the OEM ones to the spare Autozone version I had--OEM was noticeably thicker and stronger.

If you start to hear rattling over bumps but they go away if you're on the brakes, that's the reason.

i just finished doing the TBU and i had extra "anti squeal" clips that i put on.. is it fine to have two on each caliper instead of just the 1?

It is OK, nothing detrimental will happen if you use two clips per caliper. I found that only using one clip(on top) actually helped stopping just a little quicker than if using two IMO.

Hmm okay. Ill probably take off the bottom one then, installing the passenger side tomorrow since it got dark pretty fast today. Thanks
