Tundra Brake Conversion part number confirmation

Just wanted to ensure I'm getting the right stuff before doing the 231mm Tundra brake conversion. Could yall confirm I have all the right parts?

That comes out to $318.70 + tax as napa is local to most everyone

The above is an excellent setup, coating on the calipers seems nice and durable AND no sales tax. For me, sales tax is 10% so $350.57 from napa.

Also I would only recommend purchasing OEM shoes for the rear. :tea:

I know many of you on here use Rock Auto for your replacement/maintenance parts. I was talking with a mechanic friend last night about my impending brake upgrade and he too recommended going through Rock Auto.

I've never used them, but their prices are great! For those that have used them, what is the process like for returning parts for core charges? Will they accept 4Runner calipers for core on Tundra calipers like NAPA?

Back on the subject of brakes themselves, has anyone used Raybestos brake parts as part of their Tundra brake upgrade? I don't know much about Raybestos, but have always heard good things about them.

If I go with Rock Auto I'm looking at Raybestos rotors 96931R. I assume this is their "middle of the road" rotor; comparable to NAPA's $55 "premium" rotor. For calipers I would go with the FRC11550 and FRC11549 calipers which again, seem like average to decent daily driver options. For pads I'm torn between the Raybestos pads (EHT976H for $33.79 or ATD976C for $48.99 as I can't really tell much difference in them on Rock Auto's website) and the Akebono pads ACT976 for $53.79 as I've read these are OEM for our trucks.

Just FYI, you can get the OEM rotors for just a few dollars more, and they're a higher quality part.

Will they accept 4Runner calipers for core on Tundra calipers like NAPA?

Why does everyone ask this? Do the core return places have every caliper style and part number committed to memory? A dirty caliper in a box is still essentially a core return. The only way this would be a problem is if you discussed what your doing with parts guy who sold you the caliper and you returned the core directly to him..... When I got my calipers, I had part numbers on hand when I purchased them, verified the 13WL was stamped on the calipers, did the swap and took the dirty calipers back and asked for my core refund. No one even looked in the boxes lol.

I wouldn't expect the guy behind the counter at NAPA to inspect the dirty calipers in the box. I didn't know if anyone had experience with Rock Auto being any more thorough. Simply curious because I've never dealt with returning items for core charges to an online company; only local parts stores.

No harm in asking and I'm sorry if it felt like I was singling you out. I have just seen this question a lot, infact in just about every post about doing the TBU. I was starting to think there was a stricter core return process in the States.

I just got the core refund a few weeks ago for the calipers I returned to them. Took them about a month or so to do it though, so that might be why it took so long. There's still value to them for the calipers, it's just not a Tundra ones!

I agree. Skip the NAPA Rotors and order Toyota OEM's from Camelback Toyota or Toyota of Dallas. Will almost be the same price (no tax) and a better rotor, mine came to $57 each, while your NAPA ones are $54. Definitely worth the extra $3! After all, this whole swap is about upgrading to a better rotor that won't warp so this is probably the most important part.
