Tundra Brake Kit Upgrade from Ebay? 292$ Shipped!

I just pieced together my upgrade, ( correction). These are for both sides!...thanks Bob!

Tundra rotors ..........114. .........camelback toyota
Eclipse calipers........ 158...........napa.... Different calipers for core approved!!
Pads and shims........100...........local toyota dealer
Total.......................372...........Damn,Damn,Damn!!!

Oh well, I needed all new stuff anyways 220,000 on original calipers, rotors?..?
And the upgrade was just a little more then if I was to get stock parts.

I figured. I like the brand though! Good marketing tactic. I went to another forum where people were asking the quality of the Callahan brakes and all the replies were quotes from Tommy Boy...

That's funny, being a west coast boy, I had no clue Callahan breaks were real!?

Tim, can you verify your prices above are for both sides? I am doing a similar Tundra upgrade and prices can be all over the place depending on what one looks at.

Did they come with a sticker?

Was there a guarantee on the box?

No sticker.

Boxes were plain. A couple of the boxes did say Callahan.

And if you are a worker a parts store, taking in cores that are not 1: the same model core as the one bought and 2: rebuildable; you should be reprimanded for not doing you job.

Having worked at an AutoZone for two years while I was in college, I'll say this... When a customer comes back with core returns (calipers in this case), you check to see if the cores are there, and that they are not damaged beyond what a normal rebuild would fix. That's all that matters. Do you think the guy behind the parts counter can visually tell you what vehicle a set of calipers belongs to just by looking at it?

Fwiw, I was playing around, I return crap all the time, it got carried away and he seamed to always have the last word.

I get more for my automotive battery core at the metal recycler then I do at the parts store but I'll bring back a smaller lighter battery (motorcycle) to get my core back.

I say stick it to the man. My cv axles only have torn boot but other then that, there're perfect so I kept them and turned in some junky shaft from an Audi. To get my core back.

Alternator cores, I keep the rectifiers and any other parts that I can pull off, but usually if I am replacing something, it is generally wore out and the core is not worth keeping.

Just figured I would give a report on these brakes. I am in the process of hoeing my BBQ, a 3500 pound trailer, and these brakes are nothing short of awesome. I live at 7000 feet in Flagstaff, and after descending to around 1800 feet in the Phoenix area, I never got any fade or loss of braking on the hills.

A couple of times down here I had some Jack wagons cut me off, so I had to brake pretty hard to avoid an accident. Again, no problems.

I am so glad I did the upgrade before this trip as the original brakes were crap!!

I'm anticipating purchasing this kit to upgrade the stock brakes on my 1999 Toyota 4Runner. The 13WL is a well documented upgrade for these vehicles and I've already installed 17" wheels on it so clearance isn't an issue. My only concern is whether returning my 1999 4runner calipers meets the requirements for the core refund.

This subject has been bantered around a lot in one of the most prominent 4runner forums in the last few days and I want to settle the debate before I buy. I don't want to slight you by returning different calipers than the ones I am buying.

I'll be honest with you. I'm likely going to purchase this kit regardless of whether you honor the core return or not, but I'm sure there are many others willing to purchase these that are concerned about your core policy and I'd like permission to post your reply, whatever that will be, in the online forum.

Personally, based on Lizzard333 and 4yotaguy providing pics and feedback, I'm going to order it anyway. Lizzard's recent towing trip pushed me over. It's a pretty good deal even if I'm out the core charge.

What do you guys think? I was just looking into what I need to do the upgrade on my 98, and this kit came up. To me it seems like a good deal, I am just not familiar with the brand. Anyone use this yet?

Also, I have a set of MB Motoring Rims, 16 inch that were bough a number of years ago from Discount from the previous owner. They are no longer made by MB Motoring, as Discount Tire lost one of my wheel caps. I want to use these calipers and rotors (231mm) but I am not positive they will fit under the rims. I know I will need to do trimming on the dust cover, no problem, but I hate to buy new rims.

This price includes an 80$ core charge as well. so actuall price is 212 minus shipping back!

Hello t4r... I need some brakea but before trying to rescue my old tired brakea I want to upgrade. .

Few questions going this route do I need to buy anything else or is everything included? I see people talking about the shims are they needed with this kit or am I good with these?

And second question im rockin the 3 spoke stock 16" wheels will they clear?

Yes those wheels fit the 231mm's fine.

Your core may not get accepted. I would stick with going reman's from a part store near you and bringing back your 4runner calipers for a core refund as teh 18 year old blonde girl behind the counter doesn't even know what a caliper is.

A+ for NAPA

So as I mentioned earlier I mixed and matched my break upgrade, I got the eclipse calipers from napa. While doing the upgrade I got everything finished and broke the brake bleeder nut, so I tried to reverse drill the piece and had no luck. I called up my trusty napa sales rep and he said to bring it in tomorrow and he will refund and exchange for a new one, I was completely surprised he did that. I told him I had no problem paying for a new one because I might have ruined the caliper when trying to extract the screw. All said and done he gave me a new caliper and gave me my core refund back. FYI I did tell him I would be returning 99 4runner calipers for the core and was that a problem? No, he said just as long as we get a core we are happy. So now I'm driving around with the 231 upgrade and I can feel a huge difference over the tired stock components.

NAPA took care of me and even covered my stupidity in trying to fix a stuck nut. On the plus side he said it is a common problem that those get over tightened from time to time. It's good to know I wasn't the only one that's ran into that problem.

So I guess word of advise! Make sure you break loose the bleeder screw before installing just to make sure it's not over tightened from factory.
