Tundra brakes core question

I'm about to do my 231 tundra brake swap and I've been reading all the threads. I see that there is usually a $100 core charge. Will they just take the stock 4runner calipers for the core of the Tundra's?

Where are you getting quoted the core charge? Have you looked at the Toyota Salvage yards or online? Sometimes those places don't have core charges....You would probably have to ask whoever you buy the brakes from if they will take the 4runner brakes....Good question!!

I have read several that several people have been successful in returning the stock calipers for the core charge. Probably this is because the guy at the desk can't readily tell the difference between stock 4runner and stock tundra brakes.

Returned to NAPA last week--no issues. Did not even open the boxes.

Ditto. The guys at Advanced Auto Parts didn't open the box either.

X3 Did the 199mm upgrade last Sat....didnt event open the box. You will be fine.

Probably don't need anymore confirmation about this, buy x5 Ditto! Bought new calipers from NAPA and returned the 4Runner ones in the same boxes. They're heavy enough that the counter person knows something is inside, but probably couldn't destinguish the difference unless they had both types of calipers side by side. Good luck!

ok to answer your question, no they are not supposed to take back a core of a different caliper, they can actually get in trouble for that. And i know as well as any one else that not all parts stores and people for that matter are created equal, there are some real dumb peolple out there, and most of them shouldnt be walking into or working at a parts store. But on that note, as far as Advance Auto parts not living up to their name, i guess that you just didnt go to the right one, because at my store, i make sure that everyone opens the boxes up and checks to see whats inside of them, and believe me we know the difference between the right and wrong caliper.
