tundra coil 5100 shock problem

I spent all day trying to install yy/yb tundra springs with 5100's on second notch from bottom and the balljoint hits the spring I think i tried 4 different ways has anyone else had this problem? I was using the truck jack to compress the uca to get the bolt in I tried filing it down still hits all stoked to get it lifted now I don't know what to do.

You could pop out the upper ball joint or use a spring compressor to shrink the coilover to get it to fit in.

I was able to get the bolt in but ubj would get caught on the spring and I didn't want to just leave it because when the coil goes up and down it will be stuck maby I just need to keep grinding it down?

Do you mean at full droop the upper ball joint is contacting the spring? So you're worried when you driving that it will contact and have issue?

If those are the questions you're asking, then you could keep grinding it or get some aftermarket upper control arms that will clear the springs. Though you shouldn't have any issues with driving. You have the suspension pushed really far down right now and I doubt it will droop that far under it's own effort, and even if it does you will so rarely droop it that far (unless you are gaining air or going over deep holes) that I wouldn't worry about the few times it would contact.

one of the try's the UBJ was hitting the top of the coil so there was a gap below spindle with the weight of the truck it should be ok thanks for the help

I agree, I'm not quite sure what the problem is either. Not trying to be an ass but general punctuation in your sentences can also help with the message that gets across. I'm sure I will be able to help but your description of the problem just isn't making any sense to me.

I know that the Tundra coils are known to hit the UBJ under full droop, depending on your spring orientation. If this is the issue, I would rotate the shock assembly in the top coil mounting bucket on the frame so that your coils no longer interfere with the UBJ. The shock assembly will be hanging from the top 3 nuts at this point. Then I would stick some kind of pry bar into the lower shock mounting hole and spin the shock assembly until it lines up with the LCA lower shock mount. I hope that makes sense without photos....

Ya what he said, I just went throught this with the same set up. You want to have the spring seat on the bottom pointing straight outboard(facing you if looking at from side of truck). This will put the gap of the coils in a spot where the top of the spindle/ball joint will clear. I did it exactly how he described. Ill post a pic in a bit if needed.

This is what it should end up as. I just removed assm, rotated 1/3 turn(next hole), fortunate for me this put the spring seat perfectly pointing outboard where it needed to be. At this point the eye for the shock bolt was way off so I just put a long screwdriver into the hole and turned to line up. Did not have to disassemble.
