Hey folks! I'm look for a little input before I take on the Tundra brake upgrade. I've done a ton of research and read through all the great threads on this topic, but just have a few questions before pulling the trigger on parts and getting to work.
I am looking at a set of Callahan 13WLs that come with rotors and pads on eBay. I have a 2001, so from what I've read there should be any problems fitting my stock wheels (16s) over the 231mm calipers. Can anyone confirm this from experience? Does anyone have experience with the Callahan parts? I've heard they are the same company as Powerstop just branded as Callahan.
My main question is about bleeding. I want to do an entire fluid flush, and I was hoping to use speed bleeders. I'm just not sure what order to do all of this in. I want to flush the system through the old calipers so I don't get any old fluid in the new ones, but I also would rather not install speed bleeders on the old calipers and then move them to the new ones. It may not be a valid concern, but my thought is that changing speed bleeders from one caliper to the next wouldn't be recommended because of the loctite or whatever they use on the threads. Any suggestions as to the best possible way/order in which to do the brake upgrade and fluid flush would be GREATLY appreciated!
My final concern is about the condition of the rear brakes. I have yet to inspect them, but they are original, I'm at about 200K, and I think they may be out of adjustment (possibly contributing to the reason I seem to have gone through pads and rotors so quickly in the past). I still have much research to do on here about how to inspect, adjust, and replace rear brake parts, but my question is this. If I find that my rear brake are in need of some service (beyond adjustment), would there be any catastrophic effect on my new front brakes if I were to put off the rear brake service until spring? or would it just wear a little faster? I'm out here in Chicago and I have no garage, so it's hard for me to find a warm space to work in this time of year. So between that and my wallet, I'd rather not to both front and rear at once.
Ok one more...how important is the exact torquing of the caliper bolts and brake lines?
