Turbo 4runner?

Anyone see this before? I thought it may be a cool idea, but since I'm wanting more low end torque, it's not for me... They said, though, to ask them any questions about it, so for people who want their truck for racing, or just to go fast, here ya go.

Depending how you set the turbo up, you could make it work for low end torque I would assume, Turbo technology has come a long way in not only mitigating turbo lag, but helping them spool up faster and sooner.

I understand that, however, Id prefer sticking to my s/c plans, as itd be loads easier..
 
Cool as hell... but my 4.7 will make the speedo needle climb just as fast as the one in this video. He must not be pushing much boost at all right now.

You're staring at the boost gauge for half the video, you can just glance down and see how much boost he's running. Plus he says it in the video comment.
 
I have seen plenty of 4.7L turbos even twin setups in supras/sc etc. The problem with the 4runner is space. The exhaust manifolds are already very cramped to begin with in stock form; the reason we cant swap manifolds with tundras/sequoias/aftermarket.

You would have to weld in an turbo flange to the factory exhaust manifold which would be really hard considering I believe these are cast iron. Either that or custom fab an entire exhaust manifold for the turbo.

With the v6, it is much easier to install a turbo on since there is more room. There are quite a few people running around with a v6 tacoma, fj, 4runner with turbos.

I dont believe however there is any aftermarket turbo kit for the v6 due to a turbo having to be low boost application without beefing up the internals. It is much most cost/space efficient to go with a loose boost application supercharger, even toyota makes one.

Supercharger kits exist for both the v6 and v8 which is accomplishes the same thing as a low boost turbo without the lag.

Interesting video. Also I know that the V6 if I remember correctly is an "open-deck" as far as coolant goes and "closed-deck" is better for aftermarket boost.

I don't think Toyota has used cast iron manifolds for a long time. All our manifolds now are steel, because we built the catalytic converters into them for a while now. I am not aware of a cast iron manifold that has the catalytic converter built into it as one piece... so I'm assuming I'm safe by saying something like 2000-ish and up Toyotas are steel manifolds.
 
I wonder how the transmission would hold up with all that extra power/torque?
The 5-speed seems pretty solid and is probably built for towing, so it can probably handle it, but for how long...

Id be running it on the 4 with the redone cams from the 05+ 1gr.. I think im going with the s/c still, though...

I know this is a month or so old, but the spool up on my rotrex is very fast and consistent. If you have the $$$ the URD kit is worth the money and time.

Man, hows it goin in the high desert... used to be there myself...




tranny sux n will not hold up must do the valve body upgrade from IPT.
 
So i just scored a good turbo off a Cummins 3.9 4BT and am wondering where i can find information to help determine if it is possible to route the thing onto my 3.4.. Any ideas/links/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
