Turbo question....

My first question is what does the Ford Ecoboost have anything to do with this discussion? Last I checked, Ecoboost is not rear mount, not compound boosted, and is not multi turbo? Not sure where you were going with this?

I'm not trying to piss all over your parade, but it's pretty clear that you're stuck in the "theorizing and dreaming" stage, and haven't looked at all at how practical it would be to implement any of this. Have you even looked under your truck? You would have so much piping on your hot side and cold side you'd literally be dragging that sh!t on the ground as you drove down the road. I'm currently in the process of building a budget front mount turbo with mainly used parts, and I'm well over the $1,100 mark ($300 turbo, $300 44mm wastegate, $600 manifolds + downpipe, and nickel and dimed to death and all the different gaskets, adapters, pipes, clamps, etc.). And here you are with multiple pumps, turbos, TONS of piping, electric cutouts, etc. there's no way you'd be under the $1,100 mark, even if you do have some secret squirrel connection in Japan somewhere.

And what is even the benefit of all this? Unless your running some super high PSI, the benefit will be next to nothing over a single turbo setup. At low boost you should be within the compressor's efficiency range on a properly sized turbo; lag should be very minimal and will provide the power you want in the higher RPMs.

Again, not trying to sh!t all over your parade, I love reading about other people's turbo projects, but I think you need a bit of a reality check. If you're able to even pull this off, let alone under your $1,100 benchmark, I will personally buy a plane ticket the next day and fly out to where ever you are and marvel at your setup.

I was just spitballing an idea here.

I went onto the the turbonygarrett website and spent time reading all of their informational pages on turbocharging and mapped out the best single turbo for my application. And seeing a GT2871R turbo as the best option for what I'm looking at. Going to plots few more points out on the compressor map and look at a few other things.

At what rpm do you start building boost with that .57?
And what are the Other specs on the turbo

At about 3k rpms for thus turbo and the ones i listed. Ime a 57 trim is a little small for this motor but it would do just fine. The 60 trim is a better match.

I have a .60 trim eBay turbo sitting in my garage with most of the hardware etc, just need to plumb charge piping and get an oil scavenge and setup an oiling system. I want to try a remote oil setup instead of running oil lines up don't and messing with the oil pan. Maybe.. Idk yet though.
 
My advice would be to not push that unknown materials and lineage Ebay Turbo too hard. I've seen some real junk that's been sold as though they were from a reputable company, but are only worth their weight in scrap metal value.
 
Gadget and urd racing have built many turbocharged 5vz engines.....

Have you ever talked to Gadget?? It sound like if nothing else you know of him?? Why not give him a call. The last time I talked to him, almost a year ago, he had a "test Tacoma" he was driving with a turbo set up on it. Gadget stated he didn't know if he was going to sell the kit or not...stated he hadn't made his mind up yet?? I personally think he doesn't believe they're enough customers out there that would buy it; therefore, it's not worth the time/money/energy to finalize the kit....now that's just my opinion. But why else wouldn't he sale it...he has one out for the 4.0 V-6??

Come on guys...Gadget has forgotten more about boosting the 5vz than most of us know put together! That's the first place I'd start with. Worst thing he could do is hang up on you. The flip side...he could give you all the answers. Better yet, if we show him there's enough interest in a turbo kit...maybe he'll bring his kit to market!! That would be a win, win.

Yeah the eBay turbo was $80 shipped so I couldn't pass up the deal, I think it came from the Indiana based company emusa which is pretty much another "eBay brand"company. They have a 5vz tacoma kit for around $1400 but I don't really trust that lol...
But this eBay turbo would mainly be for fitment, seeing how the size of turbo feels and getting everything else ready and built up for the real thing. Save for a Garrett t3/t4 style turbo.
And I'm not doing anything fancy with the exhaust. 3-4" inner diameter glasspack (longest I can find lol) and a turndown.

And does anyone know the average volumetric efficiency of the 5vz on pump gas?
 
Look into running the holset hx35. They have very fast spool up, very strong, bolt up to t3 manifold and can be found for a few hundred bucks since diesel guys are always and they are stock on the dodge motor. I believe there is a tacoma running one in denver doing very good at low boost on it.
