Turn down exhaust

Hey guys my muffler should be here later today and I was wondering if anyone on here has a dumped or turn down exhaust after the muffler before the rear axle. If so do you get exhaust smell or fumes in the cab? Just curious cause I have never had an suv and usually just dump the exhausts on my trucks

I have this setup with no complaints from me or the wife I have even monitored rear axle temps while wheeling, compared to another 3rd gen all was good and sounds good to.

I would crush my tailpipe on the first trail with that setup. In fact Driffter and I (along with a few other members) are looking into getting some guards for the LCA mounts (the part right behind the tailpipe in your pic) because ours are beat from hitting them on rocks.

yeah that's no good what so ever, never mount anything on the frame rails like that, it'll get destroyed rather quickly.

depends which way the wind is blowing, shouldn't be much but yes in the location (in front of the rear tire) it would blow into the window at a complete stop on occasion .

haha yea i told him if he was worried about crushing his pipe but he didnt care, he wanted it for looks =P.

I have never measured this but as I have to choose between a/c or stereo I always run with my Windows down I have never noticed a problem may be I need a portable detector and run some tests but no one that has ridden with me has ever complained either

Just be aware if you have to pass state inspections or emissions tail pipes must exit where they did stock and exiting in front of the rear wheels is illegal on nearly all vehicles sold in the US.

Which flowmaster is that? Is it a 50 series?

I'm not sure As when I had this done I simply drove into the shop told them what I wanted, sounds good, tucked up nice and tight, and no more tail pipe hanging out the back about 40 min and $120 later I was roaring down the street. I asked what brand muffler it was he said flowmaster.

Well guys I went ahead yesterday and got my Magnaflow dumped on my 4runner and if anyone else is thinking about doing their exhaust this way I would highly not recommend it. My exhaust drones like crazy inside especially on the freeway at 65-70. All of the truck I have had I have always dumped the exhaust right before the rear axle but this being the first suv I thought it wouldn't make that big of a difference having it dumped but boy was I wrong. I have the 18in Magnaflow muffler which was suppose to be a quiet muffler but isn't. Don't get my wrong I love the sound of my runner now but the main reason I wanted to dump it is because I don't like the way a tail pipe looks out the back and I didn't want it to get smashed up on trails. So now I am going to figure out a way to have the exhaust not showing but still coming out in the rear. Sorry for the rant I guess I am just getting old cause in high school I was all about the loud exhaust lol
