Turn off the auto-lock feature?

When I hit the unlock button on my key fob, the doors will stay unlocked for a minute or so, then re-lock if I don't open a door. This is super annoying. When I hit the unlock button, I want it to stay unlocked.

Did some searching on the forum, but didn't find what I was looking for.

How do I turn off this auto-lock feature?

Yep! This hosed me one time when someone locked my keys in my truck while we were offroading many many miles from a trailhead or cell service. I had to break a window to get back in.

I'm curious to see about disabling this too!

On most alarms you can disable that feature but you will need to know what make and model alarm you have so you can look up the manual and find out how to get it into programming mode and how to change the different settings

Automatic Door Locking / Unlocking Function:

The factory setting for the automatic door locking and unlocking function is on.

1: Sit in the drivers seat with the drivers door open.

2: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to on (not acc) 5 times (on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on-lock, on) within a 10 second period. The status monitors LED turns on, and the piezo chirper sounds once.
***You must perform the next steps within 30 seconds***
Select the operating mode:

Automatic door locking and unlocking on: Close the drivers door. Turn the ignition switch to the lock position. The piezo chirper sounds once, and the exterior lights flash once.

Automatic door locking and unlocking off: Close the drivers door once, then open and close it one more time. Turn the ignition switch to the lock position. The piezo chirper sounds twice, and the exterior lights flash twice.

If you do not turn the ignition key to lock, or exceed 30 seconds during the programming steps, the status monitor's LED will turn off and the previous operation mode will remain.

Don't ask me how she did it, but my wife almost locked our daughter in the car when we swapped cars yesterday. Something about the auto-lock feature engaged while she was in her car seat, but luckily keys were in my wife's hands (she has a bad habit of leaving them in her purse in the passenger seat). Again, I don't know the details, I wasn't there.

Auto locks

I contacted Toyota about the auto lock features and was told with the factory installed keyless entry, was not programmable. I don't believe this includes the RS3000,3200 systems which I believe are "port or dealer" installed. I have tried every programing scenario posted here and other places and they have yet to work. The only thing I have been able to do is adjust the beep volume. My doors will lock after 30 seconds of unlocking if a door isn't opened and they do not lock when I shift into drive or when I start moving.

Whenever I get in the truck, I always put my laptop/tool bag in the passenger footwell. I start the truck from the passenger side and instantly hit the Auto-Window button on the passenger side. This helps to warm the engine/start cycling oil also.

It's second nature, now. I even hit the drivers side instinctively now, too, whenever I need to get out for something with the engine still running
Kinda annoys my wife, actually, as I do it when she's in the truck too. She jokes that I think she'll lock me out if I don't.

I've been doing this several times a day (IT contractor all over the city) for years now and have never locked myself out.

I used to do this too. Saved my bacon more than once. Magnetic key boxes are handy too so said key doesn't wiggle out of the zip tie:

Just make sure you hide it very, very good. Like on the inside of the frame rails or something. Just don't put it in view while laying under your catalytic converter, no need to have someone steal your cat AND your car.

I had used the procedure that Riceye posted and now there is no auto door lock. I have spent a good amount of time and effort to make things not automatic (5speed swap, disconnect auto functions, no fob). I am much happier when my 4runner takes direction and doesn't tell me how I should be doing things. I also keep a spare key in my backpack for those times I am a complete moron. I might forget my keys but I never forget my backpack/security blanket

FWIW - I just finished another attempt to disable the auto-re-lock feature via the instructions I have for the RS3200 VIP Factory system. Again, this feature happens when you unlock with the remote and the unopened doors re-lock after a programmed timeout. Mine is two minutes.

I failed. I successfully entered the programming mode and completed the programming with the beep confirmation at exit. It continues to re-lock after two minutes. My "re-lock after engine start with passengers inside" feature remains disarmed.

I do have a magnetic key holder stashed on the vehicle. I, too, leave nothing to chance.
