Turn Signal Bulb

I wish I wasn't asking this question, but...

The front left signal was malfunctioning, got a pack of two replacements at O'Reilly. I replaced both sides with the new bulbs, and when I checked function, the right side worked, but the left still did not.

I then removed the bulb, reversed the polarity, (not that that should make a difference...?), re-installed, and still not working.

Where is the problem...??!! With my luck, I'm sure to get a ticket for defective equipment.

Swap the bulbs and see if it makes a difference...and if that doesn't work, get out your multimeter.

Thanks. After looking around here, I thought this was going to be a real chore, but after laying on my back and fumbling around removing the bad bulb, felt obligated to go get new ones and DIY. Found it awkward, but easy.

Both of the old bulbs are dark in appearance, but one was broken for sure, could easily hear broken pieces when shook. (Shown with packaging from the new ones.)

Unplug the socket from the side that isn't working and inspect. It's probably burnt/melted. From what I've heard most Toyota dealers stock these sockets since they fail often due to the bulbs being uses constantly as daytime running lights.

I must be missing something, in your first post you say you replaced both bulbs with new ones and still had an issue with the left not working, are you now saying you replaced them again and all is well or do you still have a issue with the left one???

No, did not replace them again. The driver side still doesn't work. Based on an earlier response, could be the socket is bad, which seems a strange thing to go wrong. When looking at the part, seemed normal, did not appear damaged at all.

Most likely some corrosion going on in the socket, clean the contact area with a small file or screw driver.

The wife's '05 had the same issue.

did you top off the blinker fluid before replacing?

No, did not replace them again. The driver side still doesn't work. Based on an earlier response, could be the socket is bad, which seems a strange thing to go wrong. When looking at the part, seemed normal, did not appear damaged at all.

check with a multi meter if theres power coming out of it.

I have had trouble with the thin wire contacts on these bulbs being too flat, and not making contact in the socket. Try GENTLY prying them up A LITTLE BIT, then re-inserting.

Thanks, that idea may come in handy at some point. I have the same problem with Christmas lights...!

Well...today it was scheduled for O/C, tire roto, guess the tech dicked around with it and now it's working...go figger, the CSR didn't know why, either.

Every few months I spray Contact Cleaner on the junctions to the lights. helps
__The Right side is a _problem, may replace the harness soon. __________
