Turn signal rapid blink

Right turn signal starts fast-blinking, so I go outside and look and the front is working but the rear signal is dead. Assume it's the bulb, pull it and go to the parts store, and only then notice the filament is intact...? Continuity test shows the bulb is fine.

So now I'm mystified. The right and left signals are on a common fuse, and the left side works just fine. Power is going to the right front lamp, but not to the right rear lamp.

Any suggestions? It's a 2010 Trail, mostly stock.

I just had this happen except it was the front signal. Worked sometimes then hyper flashed. Filament was fine but put new bulb in anyways. When I looked closer at the old bulb I noticed a small crack in the base.

Did you replace it when it was out?

Check the socket contacts on that side. Known problem.

It is the bulb due to the ground fault which is causing the fast flashing. Replacement bulbs are cheap to replace. Why spend so much time on it?

Thought it wasn't the bulb.

Just tried swapping the left & right bulbs, and confirmed it's the bulb after all, so now I know!

As TRDfan2011 stated, socket contact and wire attachment issues are common for the 5th Gen. There are a few threads addressing this, should anyone else have issues with this. Most seem to involve the tail lights or brake lights.

2003 4Runner, front right turn signal

Everything works fine but starting last week the front right turn signal quit working. The inside flasher fast flashes, the signal did not work. I replaced the bulb it worked once and went out again. I have replaced the bulb 3 times and each time it works once and then does not work again. the old bulbs that quit working are GOOD, the filaments are intact! I am at a loss. oh yes, the emergency flasher for that bulb does not work either. except the first time. Can you please help? Thank you

Just tried swapping the left & right bulbs, and confirmed it's the bulb after all, so now I know!

Turns out it wasn't the bulb after all. I got a replacement bulb, but before I swapped it, the original started working again. So I left it in, thinking it would quit eventually, and just kept the spare with me. It's been months now and it still works, except for a few hours last week when it stopped again... then fixed itself again.

Classic bad-connection issue. I live near the coast, so it's possible the wires are getting slightly corroded. Next time I take it apart, I'll put dielectric grease on the bulb base.
