Turn Signals not working, high idle after panic stop

Here's a weird one that i don't know if anyone else has experienced. My son was driving his 96 4Runner (V6, 4wd, Manual Tranny) the other day and had to make a panic stop after someone cut him off while they were exiting the interstate. Ever since, his turn signals have not worked and he says the truck now idles at 1500-2000. This makes no sense to me, so I thought i'd see if the experts on this forum had any thoughts on what could have triggered these issues as a result of a hard stop, or any kind of relationship between signals out and the idle???? Like i said, makes no sense to me as I can't imagine anything these two systems would have in common.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I had a high idle problem after wheeling for a while. it ended up being my cruise control cable came out if the groove that it sits in on the throttle body.

Hi AusTex,

These two issues, though they came about at the very same time, are likely 'separate and unrelated'. My best guess would be that the turn signal circuit may have either popped the fuse due to loose wiring, a bad bulb that may have shorted to ground or "completely open circuited when jarred"; check the Flasher rly. The other issue wrt the fast/high idle... could be just a broken motor mount (or the set); which may have allowed the engine to slide/move fwd just enough to "Pull the cable linkage at the throttle body" causing the idle to increase. Have the mounts checked, and see that the throttle cable is not 'bound up' (too tight and pulling the throttle linkage), and preventing it from resting on the idle stop. Best to you!

rigtec, cheers
