Tweeter install

I haven't found any recent tweeter install threads. Google searches bring up stuff circa 2009. Technology has improved drastically since then.

Was wondering if anyone has pictures of their tweeter installs. I want to custom fit some new tweeters in the same location as the old ones, so it looks stock. Has anyone done something similar?

Ya, I had to cut them out of their case and I hot glued them into the factory location. No pics but it’s pretty simple.

installed these earlier this year. Kicker 40CSS654.
no cutting involved. removed the old ones and hot glued the new ones in the same spot. to the back of the black molding. easy worked great and sound pretty good.

You guys made it seem like a no brainer on how to proceed. Looks like just installing a normal speaker. Never have done a tweeter before. Really want one to give it more of an updated nice look.

I wanted mine to look stock behind the factory cover. I mean, tweeters are tweeters, I don’t think they’ve made any significant advances in tweeter technology in the last 20 years.

True, but i think retrofitting has come far... or maybe we all matured and just want things to look flush and not so fast and furious-y anymore. :shrug:

How is the factory tweeter cover fast and furious looking??? Retrofittting to me is installing factory parts, not afternarket.

Retrofitting to me is enhancing the OE look and or perfomance.
Beauty is in the eye kinda thing.

Maybe he just had in mind what I was thinking as well - yes the tweeter is already there, but 'retrofitting' a new one into place that is bigger / has a little more refined look (i.e. having a new one installed with a small logo on the tweeter grille / different color)

I bent the factory metal bracket so the JBL tweeters would fit. Never thought to use hot glue to mount them :sadwave:

Not that detailed but it's pretty simple once you open it up. Minor cutting with an exacto, plus some 3M mounting tape and you are good to go. These are the factory limited tweeter covers. I don't think all models had them.

Thanks for the picture Brian! You're build thread is making me consider making a stop to Joanne's for some sound deadening fabric.

next mods for me are sound deadening all the door panels and adding the tweeters.

Btw the tweeter pictured is an Infinity Kappa tweeter and I had to remove the plastic case surrounding the tweeter, peel off the Shell essentially, so that it would fit inside the black plastic factory tweeter cover.

Installers do this all the time since most aftermarket tweeters come these bulks plastic shells.
