u-bolt lift

so i saw this thing at autozone that can lift your rear 3' for 30 dollars, does this lift work for a 98 4runner.

looks like i just have to get a cheap spacer lift then, do i have to change shocks when i get the lift

i heard its really hard to change shocks for 4runner because lack of space to unscrew the top bolt

its a pita for sure but doable im 6 foot tall and 270s and dont have small arms by any means i was able to do it

I did a search and found your post where you said you used a "sawzill". First what is a Sawzill? Did you mean Saws-all? Cut the nut off?

Also, how is the ride with the Ranchos on the back? We have KYB on ours that are way too stiff. It's like riding a bucking bronco instead of a luxury vehicle.

You don't count! You actually know something about suspension. (Although you ruined your rig with cheap old fashioned leaf spring technology. )

What the efff is a sawzill? :wow2: Can you get that at Harbor Freight?
I guess as long as it doesn't arch lightning bolts when you plug it in, then its gotta be pure.

that said it would be sweet if he put the u-bolts around his coils and preloaded them, like a $30 lowering kit that rides like crap, lol:uzi:

not to knock you buddy, but most trucks are either leaf spring or coil spring suspensions, the u-bolt lift above is for a leaf sprung suspension, they wprk by using add-a-leaf pack or extra leaf springs to increase the height of the truck or those little plastic blocks in the pic there then the u-bolt goes around the leafs to secure them in place.

on our coil sprung suspensions you can lift it either by sticking spacers (kind of like the little blocks above but round) on top of the coil to increase the height or you can simply just buy longer coils.


are shocks needed? depends on the height of the lift regardless of how you go about it, when the lift is to high you risk ripping the shock in half or jamming it into it's self depending on how you flex and whats going on with articulation, with that said if you go with a spacer lift and stay on the street new shocks most likely won't be required but strongly suggested.

Well i meant a recipricating saw, and you cut the shaft as close to the mount as possible, and the Ranchos are really nice, not to soft and not to stiff, and i got them at sears for $80 for both.
