I have a crack in one of the u-joint boots...Is there some type of "wrap" or split boot that can be put over it? Or does the whole front end assembly have to come off to replace the boot?

I assume you mean your CV (constant velocity) joints.
There may be split boots available but are not recommended as they tend to leap and do not last.
Unfortunately the best answer is replace the boot by removing the front axle assembly. This gives you or the mechanic a chance to inspect and clean and replace the grease.
I had one done recently and it cost me $375.00(CAD) at the stealership.
