UCAs / rubbing? New lift and tires advice

Hi guys,

I just purchased the 3/2 billstein/toytec lift from toytec (opted not to get the ultimate in case I need UCAS), 285 70 17 Milestar Patagonias, and spidertrax 1.25" for my 06 sr5. I'm using the stock 17x7.5 alloy rims until I can afford new FN wheels.

Will I need UCAs to get it into a good alignment at this lift or is that usually per case in this situation?

Will I need to trim the body to prevent rubbing like I see many doing even with the spidertrax? I did read the lift sticky and it said slight trimming might be needed for this tire size and 3/2 lift but I was trying to avoid any body trimming if possible.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse but I just want to be prepared for when it comes time for the install!

Well, I just happened to do exactly this tonight.

I had a Bilstein/OME lift installed this last fall. Lift was probably 2.5” front and maybe 2” rear.

I just made the jump from 265/75r16 to 285/70r17 and I put them on 2008 FJ 6-spoke wheels. The stock SR5 wheels were 7” wide at 30mm offset, now my FJ wheels are 7.5” with 15 offset.

Stock UCAs

At full lock on flat surface, I’m rubbing just a little bit of the mud flaps in front. I’m also just barely rubbing when driving and making a 90 degree turn. I haven’t explored how it’s going to rub with articulation but I imagine it will worsen. I plan to heat my mudflaps and flatten them.

No rubbing on UCA on this setup with street driving. I plan on playing around on Tuesday in daylight to see where I’m at and what I’ll have to do next.

I should also note that I have a high clearance front bumper mounted so that eliminates rubbing up front.

Jury is still out on if I’ll have to do the body chop.
