So a few days after buying my 4runner it looks like the rear passanger axle seal has gone out on me. I checked them before I purchased the vehicle. I couldn't find any signs that it was leaking. I just noticed this yesterday, so I supposed there is a chance that somewhere between the time I bought it, and the the almost 1000 miles I've put on it it could have developed a leak. Oh well, it needs to be fixed.
Replacing the seal doesn't seem too tricky.
I was curious about gear oil loss. I have some OEM Subaru 75w-90 gear oil. Nothing fancy, not synthetic, not made for LSD, just what comes in most Subarus from the factory with open diffs. I believe they source this stuff from Mobil-1 or Valvoline.
Would this be safe to use in my rear end? I drive a 2000 v6 4x4 with the e-locker.
If not, what would you guys suggest?
