I'm definitely not posting this from my cell phone right now. If I were, and I tried to correct a mistake, it would magically reach out and slap me in the face.
Completely impossible to compose a readable post from a cell phone or a tablet, everybody knows that.
lol so entertaining seeing threads like this.... I am constantly amazed at how offended people can get by honesty.
OP - if you don't love the 4runner, don't buy it. If you are looking for some kind of group support to convince you to like the styling of the 4runner, there's something wrong with that. Buy what you want (and will enjoy, be able to afford, etc.). I really don't understand why you are trying to get strangers' opinions to sway you in a certain direction.
Another thing.... you say that if your Tahoe sells today you have to rush out and buy a 4runner? Why the F would you rush out to buy a vehicle that you aren't even sure you like? :doh: I honestly don't understand why you're forcing a new vehicle purchase when it sounds like you are clearly not ready to make that decision.

What always amused me is people with 10-13's & aftermarket bumpers complaining about how ugly the 14 front looks & that they'd never buy one, even though if they DID buy one, they'd be cutting or removing the front fascia that they loathe to fit an aftermarket bumper.

I think one of the bigger problems with our society these days is that so many people can't take constructive criticism anymore, or admit they have done something wrong. If someone screws up, and you try to "help" them by pointing the error of their ways, they immediately turn on you and make you into the bad guy, even though the whole thing started with their screw up.
A few years ago, someone backed into my car trying to parallel park. When I confronted him, he immediately got defensive, and actually said "That is what bumpers are for" and acted like I was unreasonable for caring that someone backed into my car. I had to fight him for his insurance info...
I deal with screwups on a daily basis, and typically people refuse to acknowledge, or take responsibility for something they did wrong, or try to improve themselves. Their general attitude is "that is just how they are" and if you have a problem with that, you are an A-Hole...
I thought it was quite ugly at first, but when I saw one in person, it was a different story. The front end is very 3D, and it loses this depth when photographed. The things I thought I would have reservations about (gills, large grill, fog lamps) are actually the things I love most about the front end. In person, the front end has a very determined and aggressive look. The projector headlights look like the eyes is a predatory animal driven by instinct. I went with gray because I love how the headlights, tail lights, dark accents, and silver bumper trim all ties together.
One thing I've noticed though, the front and rear are tough to wash. Drops of water hide very well, and though you might think you dried the truck, water will streak down the side when you drive. I now take a leaf blower to it to combat the hidden drops of water.

Yeah, I was amazed at how different it looked in person from the pictures...I thought the VA screwed-up me meds! :suspicious: I generally like the looks of the 14's, but the strange thing is that whereas I loved the look of the 10-13's, I'm just not feeling it anymore.

Looks are also completely subjective, which is why this topic is pretty useless. I initially hated the 14 front end, but like others have said, it's starting to grow on me. That being said there's nothing on the 14 that would make me want to trade in my 11 for it, especially considering all the work I've put into mine.
I'll bet if you look at the 3rd and 4th gen forums around the time the first pics of the 5th gens came out that there were posts talking about how ugly it is, just like there were threads about that in the 5th gen forum when the first pics of the 14 came out. A lot of people just say things like that to convince themselves that the newer thing isn't as good as what they have.
Anyhow, can anyone tell me what are the biggest tires I can fit without rubbing? My buddy just got 37s for his Taco and I'm wondering if I can fit 42s without any problems.

It's "growing" on me. The TRD Pro pushed me to start liking the new front end. I freaking LOVE the TRD Pro, and it will be hard to not buy one when they hit the streets. Also, the 14's looks night and day different (in a good way) when people lift a few inches, change tires, etc.
I also think the 2013 TE is one the best looking SUV's to date, and that goes for any manufacturer.

Hmm. I joined this forum after a Bing search question about "Why won't this fit my 2014?", and this forum was the first hit. I stand corrected, and do apologize for seeking information from an enthusiasts forum. I thought that was what they were for, with the obvious exception of doing a little reading and searching first. I help moderate a small gun forum. I also get frustrated at some of the "bull in a china shop" posters, but after almost 9 years at it I have learned I have to accept those as well as the "great" members in order to keep it a user friendly information exchange. I also remember the impatient type existing when I was in my 20's, so I honestly can't blame it on our current society. A need for instant gratification nowadays yes, but not a lack of grammar and spelling skills. They have existed for as long as there was grammar or spelling to correct.
Some of the smartest people I know couldn't put a correctly structured sentence together on paper if their lives depended on it. It doesn't make them dumb. It makes them a product of whatever education system they were stuck with. Who knows, maybe I'm mellowing with age. Some things just don't seem to be as important to me as they used to. But rest assured, I will be more circumspect in any further postings I make here.

Did you ever consider Plastidipping the silver bumper guard black? I love the stormtrooper look but it feels a bit like everybody is doing it (not that what other people are doing to their trucks should matter really, but still it's always fun to be somewhat unique). I was dead set on removing all the silver and chrome on mine but now I'm beginning to like the idea of keeping it. Or painting it bright orange or something.

You missed the point completely.
I don't know you. How on earth can I tell you what you would like? If this seat would be comfortable to your body type? If you would like that color? If you need this or that option? If you need KDSS? What you find visually appealing and pleasing to the eye? And especially what is a good price?
THAT is the point. With an entitlement mentality it is easy to come to a place like this instead of going to the Toyota website or *gasp* going to a dealer to test drive one. If they do this, they then come here and ask specific questions which we try our best to answer and discuss.
What if the answer to a question was as shoddy and screwed up as the way the question was typed or phrased? You would not be happy, that's for sure. Not everyone is skilled at typing or writing. I get that. I am not very good at it either. I do try however to do my best so that the person reading my prose can understand what I am trying to say. The guy above blamed it on a phone and tablet. If that's all you got fine, slow down so there is not a period. after every. few. words. Sounds like William Shatner talking. I do my best to answer a question. You should do your best asking them.

My favorite is you spent about 1/3 of this post talking about grammar and then put a comma in a bolded sentence that didn't need a comma (or the "do" and enthusiast needs a 's). That's why I don't write post about grammar. I'm always making mistakes on my phone and going back to edit after re-reading my post.
More importantly a few of us on here have spent hours trying to write good informative post that don't waste people's time with odd opinions and personal preference questions. That would be my "beef" with some of the questions asked on here. What happens is the forum gets completely full of useless information and it's mostly due to people not caring enough to search and put together a well thought out question that can actually be answered.
Most of us are more than willing to provide thoughtful insight on the topics at hand, but when lately most new threads are "should I buy", "what color", "will this fit", and "do I need" type questions. It makes it hard to want to repeat the same answers over and over again. Case in point how many people ask a tire question and the response is look at 1engineer thread on it. Or the countless TRD pro questions not put in the TRD thread.
I really hope you find what your looking for because as the years go on the information gets harder to find in a reasonable time.
Also 1engineer and myself have never met, but being a data analyst for a group of engineers I know how to communicate on a technical level better than most. I don't agree with everything he says either - but accurate communication is key to furthering proper information flow to and from the forum. That why some of us get on a soap box about these things.

I understand where you're coming from and all but I challenge you to do one thing. Post an actual question about a specific mod/problem and I'll be damned if it doesn't get answered here; and with precision at that.
This forum is full of enthusiast whom like to tinker with this truck one way or another; and that is exactly what we are here for, interested in and good at talking about.
However, this forum is not a peer support group for hand holding in decision making. Seeing as you're old and wise enough to have faced many things in your time, you I'm sure know that sometimes you just need to grow a pair and make your own decision, lol.
You have to also look at it from the true enthusiast's perspective...seeing threads about hey should I pay $xx,xxx vs $xx,xxx but at x.xx% financing; or do you think this new front end is ugly; or do these jeans make my thighs look fat, just kind of get old after a while. Most of us are here to talk about new tips and tricks or mods we've done, or help each other solve problems and issues; not to provide moral support
