Uh....anyone else getting 21MPG?

I'm dead freaking serious. I was shivering in fear as I set out on my 1/3rd-cross-country-drive last Thursday with a fully loaded T4R, hauling a mattress on a 6.5' x 12' trailer.

The WORST mileage I got was in West Virginia - 13.5MPG. The other tanks were anywhere from 17 MPG to 19 MPG.

Unloaded, I've been getting anywhere from 17MPG to 21MPG while here in Virginia. I checked my numbers; on 12 gallons, I get 250 miles. (I hit the 1/4 tank line at that point.)

I PROMISE I'm not trolling here. LOL Rather, I'm scratching my head thinking "I'm not doing nothing but driving this thing....wonder what's different about it." Obviously it's not lifted, but I know plenty of unlifted guys with these that aren't getting the same mileage.

That is perfectly normal. I get around 20 doing 75mph on the interstate with company with me. I have gotten as high as 24, bur rarely. 60mph I think is my sweet spot.

I'm averaging 21.xx mpg on old tires. Checked air pressure yesterday and added about 6-8 psi per tire. I kinda expect efficiency to increase, but I don't know how!!!

Then I must be missing something; because I see a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth here because the best some are getting is like 17 or 18 MPG.

I mean, don't get me wrong - I'm happy as hell. :D

I'm getting a healthy 14mpg or so, all stop and go, city driving, and only freeway rides for a couple of miles. I probably have a lot to do maintenance wise, though.

Now that I can see, and have gotten. When I drive to work and back (about 20 miles one-way), I'll tend to get 14 or 15.

When I am able to set cruise control at 70mph and drive full to empty yeah I can get 21. Everyday driving is more lie 16-18 average.

I just got my top end rebuilt, and I seem to be getting around 20-21, with my deck plate open and running 93octane. If I leave the deckplate out and run 87, it drops to 18 or 19. I just filled up tonight 2 blocks from the house, so new tank, running 93, gonna put the plate in and see what I get on it.
Anyones thought on running high octane versus regular? Plate or no plate?

I'm not pushing a lift, big tires, or a heavy bumper, but I expect mine to increase once I complete a couple maintenance duties in the coming weeks. I'm fairly OCD when it comes to this kind of data and had 5-plus years of mileage data on my old car before it was totalled. I could tell you the week when gas blends changed with the seasons.....Or when I bought new shoes

I'm bone stock and have been running 87 octane.

You guys suck. I'm up to date on maintenance (except 02 sensor) not lifted, stock size tires and I get 14-15 MPG no matter what. No better on the highway either.

I got 24 while driving through Yellowstone cause the speed limit is 60. I agree with one poster saying that is his sweet spot.

but I have changed many things and added some beef cake so I am lucky to get 18 if I take it easy and cruise at 70.

178 miles on 6.889 gallons of fuel. 25.83 MPG. Yes, you are reading that correctly. I usually get 23.5 highway. I got it doing 60MPH on cruise from Rockford, Illinois to The University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

My truck is fully stock and I was running Shell 87. A few weeks before the trip, I ran two treatments of Techron Concentrated for 12 gallons Fuel System Cleaner, one at each fill up. I don't think it did anything because I still got my usual 16-17 MPG city. I've always ran Top Tier gas with a preference towards Shell.

Ditto - I've not put anything other than that in my tank yet, although I do ensure that I put decent gas in it (e.g., known good gas station).

Loyal: You suck. LOL (Seriously, though, having lived in Illinois and Iowa, I can easily see getting that kind of mileage there, given the right conditions, speed, etc.)

I drove from Indianapolis to Ft. Lauderdale and back over Thanksgiving...I averaged 23.5-24 mpg going around 75mph. I was very surprised. Day to day driving I'm getting anywhere from 17-19 mpg. I'm stock with 265/75s...maybe just some of us are lucky!

good to hear it's not necessarily a sign of something major. I'm used to a 4 banger chevy so it's a shock to burn through so much fuel. :)

I have a 03 V8

On the highway the display can say anywhere from 21-28.

In the city it can say anywhere from 11-14.

Someone help me, this gas is killing me. The gas hand is a little above half and I have gone 127 miles on a little above half a tank. Even when I baby it it doesn't change. I have no idea what it do to do. Driving like a grandma doesn't help at all.

I am pretty mechanically inclined if that helps.

Uhhh call me a skeptic but 24-25 MPG seems impossible, probably user error (assume non-S/C)

* What does your scanguage say?

* The manufacturing specifications for this vehicle are 16/19, non-S/C.

* Here is what FuelEconomy.gov has for the 3rd Gen. 4Runner.

* Myself, I get 15.5 city and 18 freeway.
