Could I replace just the O-rings?
I just got a message from my buddy he said the book says the seals are a 14.7 hour job to replace, and its 28.7 hours to do a complete R&R for a new motor.

Perform a compression and leak down test. Then you can see if it is the top or bottom end.
What kind of oil are you using? Any consumption between changes?

Thats another issue.. Im about to go make a scene at the toyota dealer tomorrow..
Every oil change that i have done there (there only 40 bucks and the chic at the counter is HOT so..) they give me a sticker that goes for 10,000 kilometers..
I asked the guy and he said ya its 10k for regular oil on a truck... Im new to trucks and off road crap so I assumed theres maybe so much oil in it it could last longer ...
I have never heard of reg oil going 10K, and I havent ever noticed blue before ...( only had it a year so far) ...
Any way yes its .. dealer dino oil.

You guys are correct,
Called Toyota Stealership 14-16 hours.
Told my buddy that. He said it was 14 to remove and replace and 12 hours to "dress" the engine. He would do the dressing for me in 6 and that the dealership would eventually tack the hours on.

If the injectors were leaking, I would think you would smell gas. It would be more that likely due to the coolant temp sensor giving a lower than normal reading, thus causing the injectors to dump more fuel into the cylinders than necessary at start up.
I am more in line to think that it is one or more bad valve guides/seals. And it cannot be too bad if you aren't consuming any oil. I'd forgo the dealership changes even with the good eye candy there and buy myself a good high mileage oil such as Mobil Super, Valvoline Maxlife, or Pennzoil High Mileage and change the oil myself. Give the new oil about 1500 km to see if the blue smoke has ceased. If so, then keep using the oil. If not, then a top end rebuild is more than likely in your future.
The previous owner of my 4runner ran the dealer bulk dino oil for six to seven thousand miles up to 70,000 miles.

Or you could buy your oil at Wal-Mart or a similar store for dirt cheap, and have the dealer use it.
At my local dealer my total is 14.97 for an oil change with my oil. I think my time, the mess I make, and having them track my service records is worth 14.97.

Ya I'm feeling pretty stupid for letting that happen to my runner.. i know about oil... I was just being cheap and hoping they might have used synth but i never checked. I m pretty sure its esso dino.
I'm thinking with rebuild and re and re im looking at 2500.
I'll try the high mileage stuff first but that's not gonna work forever.
I have one of those Japanese motors places near by... all motors under 65k they sell our motors for 1300, coil packs, alternators everything still attached... How long is too long for an engine to sit? I would imagine they are gettin pretty old now.
