Ultra-Gauge issues

Anyone else have issues using an Ultra-Gauge or the like in their 4th gen?
I bought one second hand on here and it worked great for a couple months then suddenly quit and went back to the "scanning" mode looking for the right protocol to use but it never discovers one and just freezes and times out. Oh and after that it throws the VSC TRAC and VSC OFF. So I've unplugged and reset to factory defaults on the UG and did the zero point calibration multiple times to clear the VSC lights. Still no success. I pulled it out and put it in my Expedition ( I know I know) and it discovered the "Ford" protocol. So I'm mystified. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

mine does something like that, after disconnecting the battery...i turn on the ignition/start the car and after about 5mins, its all nice and good
