I got this exact same ticket at the University of Wyoming. I appealed it and was denied, but for $20 I just said whatever.

Yeah I guess I'll just frame the ticket with a picture of my truck. And the ticket was $25.00

since it is 25$ i'd pay it and have a bunch of LOLs over it. It's 25$ and that's not much. People are being so hostile in this thread, it's a joke, if someone is dumb enough to stand under your car while it's parked like that they should know they might get squashed. totally worth it dude.

You are just lucky that the so called court of appeals is the school board and not a judge in a district court. Even though the ticket and the officer states that you can go to court to appeal the ruling, there is another side of the story. The judge can and many cases WILL increase your fine, due to #1 Taking up the court's time (Expensive) and also taking up the officer's time (also expensive). The district court can increase a traffic fine up to $500.00 at their whim. So, although I kind of agree, you are not impacting others in the parking lot, the chance of someone not finding this funny is great and they will all be the ones that actually imposes the fines upon your merry little moment.

on the topic of parking tickets...
I had a gf that lived in fla at the beginning of college. I went and visited her over thanksgiving break at her college, and parked my then truck in her dorm parking lot. Why I got ticketed over thanksgiving break with no one around I'll never know but they gave me like 7 parking tickets; "No parking permit" WTF
I didn't pay a single one. To hell with that, I lived out of state.. I wasn't gonna be back.

You got it and now your mad? If you would have broken a $100 part driving up on the snow, would you be pissed off?
Point is...every time you fight this, your spending more money. Put yourself in the cops shoes. He has to give you a ticket or everyone could do stuff like this. If your the cop and drive up to see this your saying "what a douchbag, I'll find some law he is breaking and even if I don't he will probably waste his time trying to fight it"
think about it, he's probably friends with the people your taking your argument to. You have spent gas, time, and energy to make what point? He's probably just laughing at you.

All the posts about "that snow could have melted, you could have damaged another car, etc. etc.".
That sounds way too nanny-state to me. IF the car would have slid off, he has to pay for the damages. If it is insurance, now he has to pay more for insurance. There isn't a clear law saying what he did is illegal - you basically have some traffic cop thinking "I don't like that, so I will write a ticket even though it isn't clearly illegal". Well sorry, he doesn't get to do that. And if your argument is that the law MAY say that it is illegal, it is obviously at least debatable. So let him debate it.
We are frickin' citizens of this country, not subjects, and it bugs the crap out of me when people advise to "lay there and take it" when something like this happens.

im just going to say that a main reason we have police is that we a society are not able to protect ourselves. I am huge advocate in self defense and carry protection with me where ever i go.
but like you we do not agree with everything that they do. but they also do, do a lot of good for others.
So if if slid off and killed your kid, how much would you want for a payment?
Maybe it's just the engineer in me talking, but this has nothing to do with a "nanny state" this is about personal responsibility. He did something irresponsible that has a fair chance of causing harm to someone. The cop called him on it. That's hardly laying down and taking it.

I agree with the fact that officers of any status often write tickets due to the unease and discomfort of the offenders actions. They often get away with it too. However, like the post above me stated... Your insurance isn't going to cover a squashed kid. Freak accidents do occur every day. Being immature and not thinking ahead gets you one step closer to being a statistic. I'm not bashing you or the op, clearly we're not all saints. We've all done stupid shit in our days at some point. The difference though, is whether you learn from it or not.

Dude we have police not just to protect people by stopping crimes in action (something you could argue an armed civilian could do for themselves) BUT also to solve and help prosecute crimes SO we don't live in a lawless society like Syria, Somalia, Afghanistan.
Trust me the police do a hell of a lot more than just stopping robberies in progress.
All civilians should cut them some slack. Sure there are a hole cops but that would not be whole bunch.

So this one time I was at Walmart, and all the spots were taken. I just decided to put my front end on top of the cart rack. I was in the lines, not blocking a lane, and causing no harm to any cars around me. When I came out after shopping there was a cop writing me a ticket. I asked him what I did wrong and he told me that I was improperly parked in a spot, and then gave me a ticket for being an idiot.
This situation is the exact same thing you're talking about. There's no clear law saying you can't pull your front end on the cart rack, nor a posted sign telling you can't. Just because the law doesn't spell it out for you, doesn't mean it's 100% legal. It's something called common sense, and we get more of it the older we get.

I didnt get any campus tickets for this back in the day...
People parked like this all the time.
I did get some for other stupid reasons, such as parking in a reserved stall. I honestly had no idea, and wrote on the appeal note that the parking lot was covered in snow, and that if the stall was not plowed, the markings were not visible, and I had it dismissed.
