Under carpet padding

I'm curious and I'm probably going to get made fun of. I took the whole carpet out of the truck. And scrubbed and power washed it. I had it simply laying on the driveway. And the under padding got soaked and all nasty. So I basically pealed it of. So I'm curious, how important is it the padding, and has any one replaced it with something similar or the same and from where did you get it.

I don't want no MOISTURE under the carpet !

It's only a sound deadener, so not a big deal if it's not there.

That's what I figured. I just figured it's SPECIAL matieral to absorb moisture and not let get in contact with metal.

I did lay down few tiles of dynamat. But I'd like to add another layer of foam type material. I just don't want to add something that will trap moisture.

I went ahead and bought some closed cell foam from the fleamarket, 4 sqaures about 1/4 thick for total $20.

Has anyone put CCF under the carpet ?
 
When I put my fat mat sound deadening down the driver's side padding fell apart. I went to the local home improvement store and bought some of the best moisture resistant carpet pad and cut it to fit the old area. I think it cost $8.

Do you think it's safe to lay "closed cell foam" first ( as sound deadening material) and then just the jute on top or simply as you a said, carpet padding from home depot/Lowe's
 
As long as it fits under the carpet that will work great, the door sill covers and kick panels get real tight if you get too much under there.
 
I'm curious, I added few pecieces or fatmat. Used a heat gun, but no roller just my fingers. I used small tiles , rear fenders, trunk, around tranny.... Has anyone ever heard moisture getting under fatmat, dynamat type material. How would moisi even get under a carpet? Does it even happen ? Or if u have water u see carpet it's clearly another issue somewhere ? I'm just curious that I didn't make a mistake. I'm very picky and do not want ANY ISSUES WITH RUST.

If you do it right you won't have any problems. Mine is pretty extensive. Take a look. I'm 99% finished. I haven't done the doors yet. I won't until I'm ready to replace my speakers. I won't do the roof. It's not necessary. I've done dB testing and I'm way below the 90db threshold. I'm between 60 and 70. CCF is the best for deadening.

Check the last post of my build and you can see the rear cargo interior panel with fat mat and ccf. I actually just posted that today with my new A-Series Rigid Industries lights installed.

BTW you don't need a heat gun for the Fat Mat. I worked EVERY square inch with the rounded end of a screw driver handle. Taped all of the seams.

EDIT: Haven't used the dynamat yet. I still have a quarter roll of Fat Mat left.

My driver side rear door seal has a spot at the bottom where water leaks through. I'm not sure how it happens as the weather seal is in perfect condition. I've been trying to figure out how water gets in that spot for a long time now and it continues to illude me. But water gets under the carpet in that area. So yes, it is possible.

I removed the insulation from the under side of my carpet as well. But I did it because I have a mold allergy, so I have to do everything possible to prevent mold from growing,

Wow that's awesome job there. I used a heat gun because the faf mat was rolled up and unused for long time. I didn't put atls much fat mat as you. Only fee sections. Because it's all I had. But do you think moisture can get under that product ? Or are the water tight sealed ?

If your worried about water getting under the matting, concentrate on where/why water is leaking into the cab in the first place. I put dynamat on my doors and that stuff, if properly applied, will definitely keep moisture out.

If you've never had any water then you'll have no moisture, at least none you should be concerned about like if you left a window open a little. I would use that jute padding you found. looks like the same stuff you removed. Something that "breathes" so if it were to get wet it would dry quickly. The foam stuff doesn't breathe and house carpet padding is "spongy" and would absorb moisture and takes much longer to dry out.
I would definitely want something between the carpet and metal body. You could also put down some Dynamat or the like on the floor first. Toyota uses some stuff already for deadening but some more wouldn't hurt.

I never had any water inside the truck.

I just had OCD haha and don't want a mess !! I laid down little pieces of fatmat. I cut it into small tiles and used heat gun because the fat mat was sitting in garage for loooooong time. I went and ordered the jute 3/8 size and will aply under carpet to the carpet with 3m spray adhesive. I wentto local fleamarket and bought 4 squares of CLOSED CELL FOAM. Apparently this stuff doesn't absorb water. So it doesn't breath. And I was/am planning on putting the squares possibly under the feet area, on the bare .metal then lay down the carpet.

Moisture will only happen if water gets under the carpet right ?
