Under hood insulation

Just wondering how many people still have the insulation under the hood of your 4runner.

Mine is starting to fall apart in places and I'm just thinking of taking it off.

I don't know if mine ever had it, but I don't have it now.

Mine is still intact. I lost mine on an '85 BMW 7-series that stayed in the family for 20 years, and had to replace it. It made an enormous difference to the amount of engine noise in the cabin, to my surprise.

Still have mine. It's gotten really dirty from when I took it to Rausch Creek back in November, but it's still in one piece. I bet once you throw any type of engine cleaner on there to clean it off (what I did) that it'll start to discintigrate (sp?). Good thing I've only used that cleaner once.

Mine's nine years old and looks almost new. Well, it looks dark and dirty, but totally intact.

I assumed that I did but had to go check just to be sure. I do and it is still in very good condition thank goodness.

Just curious...you mean yours is fine, or yours wasn't built with it? BTW, I looked up the part for mine ($151), and it IS a 99-02 piece. Of course, '96-'98 might have had a different one.

EDIT: NVM, I gather from ClemsonFan's post that '98- doesn't have them.

Well, it seems like it's year specific from all the replies.

I know that my 96 didn't have it but my 2000 does.

What is the purpose of it anyways? Reduce noise, engine heat transmission??
