Underbody Rust - How bad is it?

Not too bad imo. The truck still has the aluminum heat shields too....I lost all of mine years ago. Pay close attention to the radiator core support, thats one of the first things to rust away on these rigs. If you do buy it, I'd clean up the rusty areas and treat with fluid film or similar product.....good luck and let us know if you get it!

Oh really? I wasn't sure since the last 4Runner I looked at was spotless underbody so was little concerned..

By my guess, I would say that it is in very good condition considering its from the east coast. From the pictures it looks like there are some spots of rust on the weld seams and around the bolt holes on the underside of the frame? If that's all of it, it should be easy to brush off and throw on a coat of paint or rust preventative preventative coating. Repaint the whole thing while you are at it and it should last you a while.
Thanks! It was very tedious but I did it myself. I got under there with a wire brush and sand paper and brought all the surface rust that I could see on the frame down to basically bare metal. Hand painted everything I could with the Eastwood rust encapsulating frame paint. It took a whole weekend to paint and a couple evenings to sand and wire brush. It's impossible to get everywhere without taking it all apart, I just did the best I could. Hoping the fluid film keeps everything in check. I sprayed inside the rails where I could too. I can't remember the final bill for the paint, but I want to say it was like $80. $30 for a few cans of fluid film.
I agree the frame looks great but that one LCA looks like it could pose a danger...Maybe see if they'll discount you the cost of new LCAs?

That's just the bump stop pad where it is welded to the LCA right?
Horrible picture but it is cold and getting dark.
Good eye! I bet you're spot on. My bad! The shadows in OPs pic made it look more like rust peeling back.

You weren't alone, it was my first impression as well when seeing the photo, which surprised me because the rest of the under carriage isn't all that bad!

Is that crossmember nearly rusted away (hard to tell on my phone)?
I'd either run from that or - if it runs well and the interior is good - use it as a big bargaining chip.

my only concern is that 2nd to last picture, lets see some close ups of that area.
is that lower a-arm separating apart from rust? something looks like its coming apart there

I'd pass on that. Hopefully you can find better. If you're willing to travel to say Kansas or further west chances are the selection of rust free ones go way up. It's good you're checking, best of luck.
