Unknown button on console- looked everywhere!

Hey all,
So I am losing it over this button on my console on the lower left driver's side next to the hood release. It's not in any owner's manual I can find online, looks like it was after market or part of an upgrade, I did not add it, I cannot notice any change when I hit the green center of this button.

Can anyone clue me in? I have 2 buddies look at it (briefly) that are vehicle savvy and they thought perhaps tied into the alarm?

It's black, green center, wires coming out the bottom, screwed into the console, no label.

I've wasted hours now and I cannot do it anymore. I hate calling my dealer as they stink but will try the parts dept. next and ask about my build since it's not on any paperwork.

PLEASE HELP THIS NEWBIE OUT?!

THANKS!

Did you try removing the screws and looking for a part number or item number stamped/molded into it, even inside the cover? I can't tell you how many things I've identified by Googling that type of info.

Just an idea.

Unfreakin' believable. I already HATE HATE HATE this dealership.
More reason now.

No paperwork or anything on it included. No wonder I had ZERO idea.

I need to get the parts department on the phone and get the true build on my 4Runner.

This and other crap was already installed when I bought it. According to them, they were ready to do more "upgrades" to it when I bought it. I bought it then before they could find more ways to jack the price up.

Was the only off road premium (2017) they had on the lot back then and I love the truck but that pisses me off. That and the Entune system lacks but hey, I was a techie so we are hard to please.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Not sure what I want to do next now...

Well since your wiring was hacked into to install that you are looking at potential issues down the road. I suggest you print out that thread and take it to that dealer and demand the same resolution.

The funny thing is they sold it on top of the alarm system as a way of shutting the vehicle down if I call a phone number.

I've already had so many arguments with this dealership I can see them blowing me off.

I made some demands as they were charging so much for 4Runners as they are quite popular here in this part of CO.

Also- I thought that system is supposed to make a lot of noise like a "horn honk"? Mine sounds like the factory alarm, I don't see that LED blink, etc.

There's no darn paperwork except a sticker on my window saying that is was protected by it. What a joke I'm guessing. For all I know it's not even doing anything.

Also- it says remote engine starter so if I take that off do I lose the ability to start my engine remotely? It's actually got "Toyota" stamped on it and it says it's in the owner's manual. I just can't follow this mess.

OK- thanks again- you were right.

So it's not Toyota, jerks put Toyota clear stickers over it that make it look Toyota branded.

It's NOT!

It's also not activated, and KARR does not even work with this darn dealership so if I even wanted this God forsaken device- they won't/can't do it.

Also- I see the rubber molding on my rear drivers door is now closing up properly. I push the door close, and nada. Now I notice it's ungluing.

Did I get a POS? I wish I drove it more so I would find all the kinks now.

The KARR I have sounds like a shock system so is that still on the harness? I cant get under the hood as my stenosis in my neck has had me laid out for 2 days. I am asking them to uninstall it but I am getting nowhere so far since they disconnected me after a long wait...

THX- and THANK GOD FOR THIS FORUM!:clap2:

I see you're in CO Springs... I just purchased my T4R from Colorado Springs (drove up from NM).

Wondering if it's the same dealer. I had trouble with them also, but looks like I got away without whatever that is under your dash.

Hey there, if it was in COS, there are 2 dealers but same owner. One in "motor city" and the one near my home further north of there.

Both called Liberty Toyota.

They are now finding out if they will cover the uninstall. If not- I will do it or have it done by my pal since my back is jacked as of late.

Hope all is well down south!

Thanks, I did read up on that mess.

The dealer better cover the uninstall. I don't think they put it on since KARR does not even work with this dealer. The 4Runner must have been trucked down from another dealer.

Still ticks me off since it should not be on there.

I'll get that off one way or another and that's ZERO problem on my warranty since they f'd up. I best not hear a peep from them. It looks like a chimp put it on and not a dealer.

Just like I read- I am sure it was so another dealer could have a kill switch at the time. Useless and deactivated now anyways.

My 2006 Tacoma was a dealer trade that had the Karr alarm installed by the original dealer. When the dealer trade was done, they removed the Karr alarm and that box with the green button. There are T-Taps on the wiring under the dash as evidence of this crappy alarm.

It's been like 12 years since I've had my Tacoma no electrical issues yet.

DARN DEALER still won't confirm this will be a free service to remove.

Does ToyotaCares really care? Does it help to email them?

I have this button on my New 2018 ORP too. I found it today after reading this thread. lol.. Should I be concerned about it? or should I just not bother with it? My dealer traded another dealer to get me this ORP because I really wanted white, I bet they didn't even know it was there.

Hey- so you're in the same position as me. I read up a lot on it as of now.

I think it's a tough call whether to do it or not- if they will remove it free- DO IT!
I am in the midst of that argument.

I am making the case mine is useless and I called KARR and won't even work for me according to them.

My dealership are jerks IMHO.

If your dealership (I think I read u got it from one) will remove it at no cost- I would say remove it.
That's based on what I read though my gut opinion is you may never need to. Still it's garbage and never should have been on there.

Are you taking this 4Runner off road and all that? I mean if I was going to rough it up at some point, I would and I will because of that. Though I've yet to do more than 50 miles or so off road due to my spine.

I don't think there's a perfect answer except if you get a pro for free to take it out- that's my thoughts anyways. Only based on reading lots of posts and even other sites.

Good luck- I would not let it keep u up at nite but stil....

Thanks for the reply and thoughts. I guess I’ll email my dealer and see what they say.
