Unknown piece

I just went to the dealer yesterday to finalise the deal on my 09 and I'll have the keys this evening. I was looking trough it after the vendor was gone and I noticed a big U shaped plastic piece that I just can't figure out what it is. When you are seated in the 2nd row and looking right about where climate controls would be for the 2nd row if there were any. My old subaru had fold-out cupholders at this spot for the rear seats but in the 4Runner there is a 7-8 inch long U shaped plastic handle-like thing that lifts up to 90 degrees.
What is that?
At first I thought it could be a fold-out handle for someone seated in the middle but it's way to cheap.

I know it's not the best description but unfortunatly I did not have a camera on hand at the time.

I believe that you are referring to the trash bag holder. There is a section in the owner's manual that shows you how to use it. I am glad that (for now) I don't have a use for this!

Yep! When I have kids they will definitely be using this - no excuse not to! No litter in my vehicle!

lol when I bought my 4runner I even asked the salesman what this was because I like to touch everything in a vehicle im about to buy and he had no clue what it was

Yep - trash bag holder designed to use plastic grocery bags - pretty much useless IMO.

As others have pointed out, it is a trash bag holder. I would have preferred an additional auxiliary power outlet up front. :rolleye2:

I use it to hold my thermos upright to and from work...does the job but the thermos does move around a bit...keeps everything mixed up nicely!

It's a common question for most new 4Runner owners. I figured it was probably in regards to the trash bag holder when I saw the thread title.

Anyways, member Luxury has pictures of the corresponding accessory trashbag from Toyota for the Japanese version of the 4Runner, the Hi-Lux Surf, here in his post.
