Unknown Roof Dent Repair Question

Today I decided to install a set of Steelcraft side bars and Bajarack on my 2014 SR5. After finishing with the side bars, I went to look at the roof to figure out how to remove the factory crossbars - and I find this dent. It came from something circular and small in circumference, and was wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this before?

It's got rust, so it must have been there for a while now. But what's this repair going to cost me? Definitely not feeling good about this.

The rails look good though, will hopefully look even better when I can get the rack on there.

That sucks. It's hard to tell. It looks like it got hit w/ a stray bullet from some dip$#!ts celebratory gunfire or a an ex hit it w/ a tack hammer.

Not sure what an autobody will charge; hopefully, it doesn't cost you too much.

Hope to see some pictures after you get the Bajarack installed.

Haha I guess I could have caught a stray bullet, but can't be sure.

I'm thinking of taking it in tomorrow before putting on the rack - don't want anyone (mainly insurance) to think that I might have done it during installation. I wonder if something like this affects premiums?

X2, looks like damage from a falling bullet. Guessing you would have heard that if it was some type of road debris. Repair should be pretty simple, your comprehensive should cover it.

I've dropped a few very heavy things on my roof, with just scratches, had to be something heavy.

Wow! That looks to me like someone did a drop test off a hi-rise or an overpass! You don't park or work around any tall buildings do you? I wouldn't think a claim like that should affect your premium though. It's pretty obviously been there for a little while and you couldn't have known it was there until you did the roof rack. I can't see how you could have missed the noise if you had been in there when it hit, and it wouldn't have been obvious in that location any other time.

If it was some peckerwood dropping something off an overpass I'm glad it hit there instead of your windshield....... :wow:

Could easily run upwards of $800-1000 by the time you figure repair time, paint time, dropping the headliner for access, etc. Your local body shop should provide a free quote.

Looks like what ever hit your roof might still be in there. Is that the case?

From the pic it looks as if the metal has actually been perforated - but I guess you'd have seen a leak.

It was certainly something round. I was thinking "bullet" too .... no ballistics expert, but wouldn't a falling bullet be tumbling and not enter round like that? Could you have had that since new?

Did you look at your roof when you took delivery of your rig? That to me looks like transport damage. The transport truck's trailer might have hit it during transport to the dealer
